About the role
DaV’ange Care is looking for a compassionate, energetic and reliable Disability Support Worker to join our team in the Arana Hills area of North Brisbane.
This role involves supporting a young man with complex support, communication and behavioural needs. We are looking for someone who is confident, patient and genuinely enjoys being active and engaged with the people they support.
Supports operate 16 hours per day plus inactive sleepover, so applicants should have flexibility to work a combination of day, afternoon, weekend and overnight shifts.
About the Participant
You will be supporting a young man with complex support needs who benefits from consistent, person-centred support and meaningful engagement in his daily life.
He enjoys being active and engaged, with a particular interest in outdoor activities, swimming, exploring the community, walks in the park and participating in a variety of recreational and community-based activities. He responds best to support workers who are motivated, consistent and willing to actively participate in his daily routines and preferred activities.
The participant has complex communication and behavioural support needs and can experience behaviours of concern when overwhelmed or dysregulated, which may include behaviours that present a risk of harm.
You won't be expected to manage these needs without support. Staff receive participant-specific training and guidance from a multidisciplinary team, including training in his behaviour support strategies and approved practices.
Experience with Positive Behaviour Support, complex behaviours and Restrictive Practices is highly regarded; however, comprehensive participant-specific training will be provided.
What You'll Be Doing
In this role, you will:
- Provide consistent, person-centred support in accordance with the participant's individual support plans and routines.
- Actively engage the participant in activities he enjoys, both at home and in the community.
- Support daily living activities while encouraging independence and skill development.
- Use participant-specific communication strategies to promote choice, understanding and engagement.
- Recognise signs of escalation and implement proactive and positive behaviour support strategies.
- Respond calmly, safely and professionally during behaviours of concern.
- Follow the participant's Behaviour Support Plan and approved strategies.
- Work collaboratively with other support workers, management and the participant's multidisciplinary team.
- Maintain a safe, respectful and supportive environment.
- Participate in participant-specific training, team meetings and ongoing development.
