What they need
Supporting Independent Living Co-operative (SILC) is a not-for-profit organisation creating homes with heart through our unique family-governed model.
We are seeking experienced and passionate Disability Support Workers to join our team at Emet House, a home in Strathfield for three young men in their 20s with Level 3 Autism Spectrum Disorder, moderate-to-severe intellectual disabilities and complex support needs.
Emet House is a small, supportive community where the residents enjoy being active and involved in the wider community. We are looking for physically capable, confident and compassionate support workers who can build warm relationships with the residents while supporting them to develop independence and pursue their interests.
About the role
The role includes:
- Supporting residents with daily living, personal care and community access
- Developing independence and working towards individual goals
- Meal preparation, driving/transportation and household routines
- Maintaining accurate records and communicating effectively with families and the support team
- Fulfilling overnight shifts as required
This position requires experience supporting people with high intensity support needs and complex behaviours of concern, including behaviours that may pose a risk of harm to themselves, others or property. You'll work as part of a collaborative team implementing a comprehensive Behaviour Support Plan with clear proactive and reactive strategies.
About you
We are particularly seeking someone who is capable and confident in supporting strong young men with intellectual disabilities and complex behaviours, while helping them participate actively and positively in the community.
You will ideally have:
- Minimum 2+ years’ experience supporting people with autism and complex behaviours of concern
- A genuine commitment to person-centred support and upholding the dignity of residents
- Confidence working independently, strong communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively as part of a team
- A commitment to developing residents’ independence and quality of life
- Reliability, flexibility and a willingness to receive feedback and undertake ongoing training
- Experience using de-escalation strategies and remaining calm during high-intensity incidents
- A patient, positive and non-judgemental approach, building trusting relationships
- The physical capacity to respond safely when challenging behaviours occur
- A willingness to support the Christian ethos and vision of Emet House
Essential Requirements
- Current NDIS Worker Screening Check (or willingness to obtain)
- Current First Aid & CPR (or willingness to obtain)
- NSW Driver’s License and insured vehicle
- Physical capacity to respond safely during behavioural incidents
- Availability for weekend and overnight shifts, among others
- Experience in the disability sector
A qualification in disability or a related field is desirable but not essential.
Shifts
Emet House operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our current need is particularly for weekend, evening and overnight support, although day shifts may also be available for the right candidate.
What We Offer
- Comprehensive induction and ongoing training in individual Behaviour Support Plans
- Ongoing professional development
- Regular team meetings and clinical support
- The opportunity to work alongside an experienced multidisciplinary team
- A supportive, family-led cooperative environment
- Meaningful work where you can make a genuine difference
To Apply:
Please submit a brief cover letter outlining your relevant experience and why you are interested in working at Emet House, together with your resume.
We believe in being transparent about the nature of the role. Shortlisted candidates receive detailed information about the residents' support needs during the interview process.
Due to the specialised nature of this role, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interviews.
