What they need
Job Summary: We want to hire an experienced Truck Dispatcher to run the full dispatch cycle for our trucking operation, from finding and negotiating profitable loads to making sure every delivery is paid. As the main point of contact for brokers, you'll handle calls and paperwork so our driver can stay focused on driving. The person we're looking for is a confident negotiator with strong phone skills, a sharp eye for numbers, and hands-on US load board experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Locate loads on load boards such as DAT and Truckstop.com to keep the truck booked steadily
- Calculate rate per mile, deadhead, fuel costs, and next-load potential to judge lane profitability before booking
- Negotiate with brokers for the best possible pay on each load
- Book loads and confirm pickup and delivery details with brokers and shippers
- Take and manage inbound broker calls for the driver while he is on the road
- Make check calls and track loads in transit, keeping brokers updated promptly
- Verify rate confirmations before sign-off and handle BOLs and other load documents
- Complete carrier packets and broker setup paperwork
- Collect and file post-delivery paperwork, including signed BOLs and PODs
- Send invoices promptly after delivery and follow up until payment arrives
Mandatory Skills:
- Demonstrated experience as a truck dispatcher for US carriers
- Hands-on experience with load boards such as DAT or Truckstop.com
- Strong rate negotiation skills with freight brokers
- Ability to calculate rate per mile and assess lane profitability, including deadhead and fuel costs
- Working knowledge of rate confirmations, BOLs, PODs, and carrier packets
- Excellent spoken English and confidence on live calls with brokers
- Experience with load tracking, check calls, and freight invoicing
- Steady, meticulous, and self-managing
- Strong communication skills and the ability to make sound decisions quickly
Preferred Skills:
- Experience dispatching for owner-operators or small fleets
- Knowledge of factoring companies and how their submissions work
- Experience with broker credit checks and carrier onboarding platforms
- Basic understanding of Hours of Service (HOS) rules and trip planning
- Knowledge of invoicing tools such as QuickBooks or similar software
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities under time pressure
Why Join Us: You'll work hand in hand with the owner and play a key role in the business's success, with real control over which loads we run and how much we earn. We value initiative, clear communication, and people who care for the business as though it were their own. This is a strong opportunity for a dispatcher who wants to make a visible impact and grow with a hands-on team.
