- Take ownership for metro service performance and ensure despatchers understand and meet customer expectations, ensuring prompt communication and practical solutions.
- Lead root cause reviews for failures and ensure corrective actions effectively enacted.
- Review despatch processes and systems regularly and implement agreed improvements.
People Leadership and Performance
- Build a strong positive culture in which people are approachable, information is shared, and problems are raised with solutions.
- Develop a superb team culture that allows for an enjoyable team environment while maintaining our high standards.
- Mentor and coach despatchers, conduct regular one-on-one’s, team meetings, and performance reviews.
- Promote constructive working relationships between despatchers, drivers and the wider operation.
Fleet Utilization
- Review vehicle utilisation and route efficiency, and implement actions that improve productivity and cost control.
- Work with our Fleet and Operations managers to identify vehicle requirements, maintenance impacts, and future capacity needs.
Administration and Strategy
- Actively participate in management, operations, customer, and Health & Safety meetings.
- Prepare monthly reporting on service and staff productivity.
- Lead a safety-first approach and ensure despatch decisions support safe driving, lawful work hours, load security, and safe site practices.
Skills and Qualifications
- Strong people-orientated leadership experience including coaching, performance management and workforce planning.
- Demonstrated experience leading a transport despatch, distribution or time-critical logistics operation.
- Excellent oral, written and computer skills.
- Full New Zealand Driver License (F Endorsement preferred).
Personal Attributes
- Approachable, fair, team-orientated, and with a genuine interest in caring for your team.
- Calm, decisive, and organised under pressure, with strong attention to detail and an ability to maintain a wider operational view.
- Accountable and dependable.
