Distribution Assistant

Job Summary

The Circulation Assistant supports the daily distribution operations of the Daily Inter Lake by assisting in the management of independent contractors and ensuring timely, accurate newspaper delivery to subscribers. This role is responsible for addressing customer service concerns, supporting carrier performance, and helping maintain high standards of delivery satisfaction. The position requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Position Duties & Responsibilities

• Assist in managing independent contractors to ensure efficient newspaper delivery.
• Respond to and resolve customer service issues in a timely and professional manner.
• Support carriers in learning and navigating delivery routes.
• Monitor delivery performance to ensure subscriber satisfaction standards are met.
• Assist in the distribution of newspapers to designated carrier drop locations.
• Deliver newspapers directly to subscribers when necessary.
• Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth daily circulation operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
• Ability to work scheduled shifts, Sunday-Friday early mornings averaging 30-35 hrs/wk.
• Reliable transportation, valid Montana driver's license, and proof of insurance required.
• Ability to work night shifts.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the distribution area for extended periods.
• Ability to lift, carry, sort, and organize bundles of newspapers and distribution materials.
• Ability to frequently lift and carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds and occasionally handle heavier items with assistance.
• Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and perform repetitive hand and arm movements as needed.
• Ability to safely load, unload, and move newspapers, supplies, and equipment.
• Ability to work early-morning hours and in varying indoor and outdoor conditions.
• Ability to maintain attention to detail and follow safety procedures in a fast-paced distribution environment.
