What they need
Port Marlborough is a forward-thinking port and marina business with operations across multiple sites in Picton, Waikawa, Havelock and the wider Marlborough Sounds. Port Marlborough’s marinas business unit operates under the brand of Marlborough Sounds Marinas and is privileged to manage three substantial and comprehensive marina facilities at Havelock, Waikawa and Picton. The marina operation is a central service hub for recreational boating, community access and commerce within the Marlborough Sounds.
Guided by five strategic pillars — People, Planet, Prosperity, Partnerships and Performance — Port Marlborough is a values-driven organisation where Hauora, Kaitiakitanga, Mahi Tahi, Pono and Kairangatira shape the way the team works every day.
Marlborough Sounds Marinas is looking for a practical and customer-focused Dockhand to join the team at Waikawa Marina.
About the role
This is a varied, hands-on role where you'll help keep the marina operating safely, efficiently and to a high standard. Working as part of a small team, you'll assist marina customers, maintain facilities and grounds, support marina operations, and contribute to the overall presentation and security of the marina.
No two days are the same, making this an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors, solving problems and being part of a busy operational environment.
This is a permanent, full-time position, working Sunday to Thursday each week. You will also be required to work public holidays that fall on your normal working days.
About you
You'll be a practical, customer-focused individual who enjoys working outdoors and takes pride in maintaining high standards. You'll be adaptable, proactive and comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
You'll bring strong customer service skills, a hands-on approach to maintenance and operational tasks, and the ability to build positive relationships with a wide range of marina users, contractors and visitors. Strong communication skills, sound judgement and a commitment to health and safety will be essential, along with an awareness of environmental and biosecurity responsibilities.
Experience in marina operations, boating, maintenance, groundskeeping or operating plant and equipment would be advantageous, although not essential. You'll also need to be physically fit, comfortable using computers and hold a full New Zealand Driver Licence.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a respected local employer where you’ll enjoy varied work and a supportive team environment.
Port Marlborough is committed to providing a safe working environment and will undertake a pre-employment medical assessment, including drug and alcohol screening.
To be considered for this opportunity, applicants must have the legal right to work in New Zealand. We are unable to consider applications from candidates who do not currently hold valid work eligibility in New Zealand.
