General Practitioner (GP) | Make a Lasting Difference
More Than a Job. A Chance to Transform Health Outcomes.
At Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Pikiao Trust, we believe healthcare is about more than treating illness. It is about strengthening whānau, advancing equity, upholding mana, and helping create a thriving future for our people.
We are seeking a passionate and experienced General Practitioner (GP) to join our kaupapa Māori primary healthcare service in Rotorua. This is an opportunity to work within a progressive, whānau-centred organisation that is deeply committed to achieving Pae Ora, delivering care that is Tiriti-centred, equity-focused, culturally safe, and relationship-based.
If you are looking for meaningful mahi where you can build lasting relationships, practise with autonomy, and contribute to transforming health outcomes for Māori and our wider community, we would love to hear from you.
About Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Pikiao
Ngāti Pikiao Health Services is a kaupapa Māori health provider serving whānau across Rotorua and the wider rohe.
Guided by the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and grounded in the values of:
- Manaakitanga
- Whanaungatanga

- Rangatiratanga
- Kaitiakitanga
We deliver integrated, holistic healthcare that recognises wellbeing as encompassing physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, social, cultural, and environmental dimensions.
Our services operate across multiple sites, including acute and chronic care clinics, alongside community outreach services that take healthcare directly to whānau where they are.
We are proud to work within a model of care informed by Te Wheke and the NUKA System of Care, placing relationships, continuity of care, and whānau aspirations at the centre of everything we do.
The Opportunity
As our General Practitioner, you will play a key clinical leadership role within our multidisciplinary hauora team, providing holistic, whānau-centred care and contributing to improved health outcomes for Māori and the wider community.
You will:
- Provide high-quality, culturally responsive primary healthcare across the lifespan.
- Deliver comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, treatment, prescribing, and follow-up care.
- Manage acute presentations and long-term conditions.
- Build strong therapeutic relationships and continuity of care with patients and whānau.
- Work collaboratively with nurses, kaiāwhina, allied health professionals, and community providers.
- Champion equitable access and outcomes for Māori and priority populations.
- Contribute to clinical leadership, service development, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Support a model of care that is holistic, whānau-led, and mana-enhancing.
This role offers significant professional autonomy while being supported by a highly collaborative and values-driven team.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Current vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
- Current Annual Practising Certificate (APC).
- Strong primary care clinical skills.
- A commitment to health equity and culturally safe practice.
- A desire to work in partnership with whānau and community.
