Documentary Director/ Researcher

Key Responsibilities

• Identify, research, and develop documentary ideas, themes, and stories that align with the brand's editorial and creative strategy.

• Conduct in-depth research, including archival research, interviews, and fact verification, to ensure accuracy and depth.

• Write treatments, pitches, outlines, and scripts for documentary projects.

• Direct documentary shoots, guiding the crew, interviewees, and presenters to capture authentic and impactful material.

• Plan production schedules, budgets, locations, and logistics in collaboration with producers and the studio operations team.

• Source, secure, and manage interviewees, contributors, access, and permissions, including releases and consent forms.

• Work closely with videographers, editors, sound engineers, and motion designers to shape the final visual and narrative style.

• Oversee post-production, including story structure, edit reviews, narration, music, and final delivery.

• Ensure all productions meet ethical, legal, copyright, and editorial standards, including sensitivity to vulnerable subjects.

• Manage archival footage, licensing, and clearances for all documentary projects.

• Explore distribution opportunities, festivals, and partnerships to extend the reach of documentary content.

• Mentor junior researchers, assistant producers, and freelancers working on documentary projects.

Pay: ₦200,000.00 - ₦350,000.00 per month

Education:

• Undergraduate (Preferred)

Experience:

• Documentary Director/ Researcher: 5 years (Required)
