What they need
Some people can point a camera at a stranger and come back with a story. That is who we are looking for.
The Lyceum Clinic is a mental health practice in West London. We are building a documentary-style series about how people in this city think, feel and cope, led by our clinicians and shot on the streets, in cafés and in our consulting rooms. We want a placement student with the eye and the nerve to capture it.
What you will do
- Plan and shoot short documentary pieces and interviews: Londoners talking about everyday pressures, and talking-head sessions with our Clinical Director.
- Set up simple kit, put people at ease, ask good questions and get properly signed consent.
- Shoot b-roll that gives a piece atmosphere, not filler.
- Hand over organised, labelled footage, or cut your own pieces if your course wants you to.
You might be right for this if
- You have made something you are proud of: a student film, a short doc, a channel. Send links.
- You have a point of view about how a story should look and feel, and can explain it.
- People open up to you. You listen more than you talk.
- You handle sensitive subjects with care and know when to stop filming.
Likely courses: BA Film Production, Film and Television, Documentary Film, Media Production, Digital Film, Photography and Moving Image; Level 3 or T Level Creative Media Production at college.
What you get
- A named placement lead, two short check-ins a week, and a consent and safeguarding briefing before your first shoot.
- Kit provided or funded. Published work for your showreel. A written reference and placement reports in your institution's format.
- Travel and agreed expenses reimbursed.
Good to know: you will not film clients or have access to client information. Everything is approved by our Clinical Director before publication.
To apply: email [email protected], subject "Placement – Filmmaker", with: your institution, course and placement module (and confirmation it is required); your placements tutor's name and email; two or three links to your work; and short answers to (1) a documentary or interview you admire and what you would borrow from it, (2) how you would approach filming a stranger talking about a hard week, (3) your placement dates and weekly hours.
Pay: From £150.00 per week
