Dog Handler / Driver - part time to possible full time

Part-Time Dog Handler/Driver - Permanent position with the potential to progress to full-time

Are you confident around dogs, practical, dependable and looking to build a career in a role where every shift is different?

Perhaps you already have experience in animal handling or strong practical experience handling dogs. You may have worked as a delivery driver or in another driving-based role and genuinely enjoy being on the road, as driving is a major part of this position and will account for a significant amount of your working time. You may now be looking for a permanent opportunity where you can develop your skills, take on more responsibility and potentially progress into full-time work.

At Noah’s Ark Environmental Services, we are looking for a reliable individual to join our professional team as a permanent part-time Dog Handler. We want someone who can become a valued, long-term member of our team, with the potential to progress into a full-time role as opportunities become available.

The role will include scheduled shifts, often following a two-shifts-on, two-shifts-off pattern. Weekend working will be required. It would suit someone who enjoys driving, working independently, taking responsibility and supporting animal welfare.

What you’ll be doing

• Handling and transporting stray and seized dogs, including large and occasionally challenging or dangerous breeds
• Prioritising jobs and planning routes to respond efficiently
• Assessing each situation and adapting your approach to suit the dog and environment
• Working closely with a committed and professional team
• Completing records and Excel spreadsheets accurately
• Communicating calmly and professionally with members of the public, local authorities and other agencies
• Providing additional support with rehoming or warrant work, where required and if this is of interest

What you’ll bring

• Previous dog-handling experience is preferred
• A calm, confident and capable approach around dogs
• The ability to remain composed in challenging or unpredictable situations
• Good judgement and the confidence to use your initiative
• Basic experience using Excel and maintaining accurate records
• A clear, friendly and professional telephone manner
• Reliability and a team-focused attitude
• A full, clean manual UK driving licence - an automatic-only licence is not sufficient
• A willingness to complete a DBS check

Physical requirements

This role involves handling large dogs and may include physically demanding duties, such as lifting equipment and safely controlling animals. A good level of physical fitness is therefore required.

Full training will be provided, and you will be supported by an experienced, knowledgeable and passionate team.

This role could be perfect for someone who

• Wants to develop a career working with dogs
• Is looking for permanent part-time work with the potential to progress
• Enjoys staying active and taking on responsibility
• Values being part of a close-knit, professional team
• Likes variety, practical challenges and using their initiative
• Is comfortable driving and working independently
• Takes pride in doing work that genuinely makes a difference
