Job Overview

Salty Paws is looking for an experienced, reliable, and motivated Dog Trainer / Adventure Guide to join our growing team in Hampton, NH.

This is a hands-on, active position combining dog training, structured off-leash adventures, pack management, and transportation. You’ll work with dogs individually and in small groups to build reliable obedience, confidence, appropriate social skills, and safe off-leash behavior.

YOU MUST HAVE AT LEAST 1 YEAR OF PROFESSIONAL DOG HANDLING OR TRAINING EXPERIENCE TO BE CONSIDERED.

Training Responsibilities

You’ll help dogs develop and maintain skills including:

● Recall and name recognition

● E-collar conditioning

● General obedience training

● Sit, stay, come, and release commands

● Impulse control

● Barrier and threshold awareness

● Confidence building

● Trail manners

● Calm, structured pack walking

● Appropriate play and social behavior

● Car riding manners

● Working through the Three Ds: Distance, Duration & Distraction

● Maintaining obedience around increasingly challenging real-world distractions

● Reinforcing training consistently during adventures and daily routines

Adventure & Pack Responsibilities

● Safely transport dogs to and from their homes

● Lead structured off-leash adventures with packs of up to 9 dogs

● Maintain control of group dynamics and off-leash safety

● Read canine body language and intervene appropriately when needed

● Introduce dogs safely into established packs

● Provide individualized attention based on each dog’s training needs

● Plan safe adventure routes based on weather, terrain, and dog fitness

● Work outdoors and drive in all weather conditions

● Follow Salty Paws’ training, safety, and handling protocols consistently

What We’re Looking For

● At least 1 year of professional dog handling or training experience

● Strong understanding of dog behavior and body language

● Experience managing multiple dogs at once

● Comfortable working with dogs of different breeds, sizes, temperaments, and energy levels

● Experience with off-leash training and recall strongly preferred

● Experience with e-collar training or conditioning preferred

● Confident, calm, and consistent handling style

● Reliable, punctual, responsible, and able to work independently

● Physically capable of hiking several miles per day in all weather

● Valid driver’s license and clean driving record

● Comfortable driving company vehicles in varying weather conditions

● Smartphone for work communication

● Able to pass a background check and drug test

● Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and genuine passion for working with dogs
