Already working in pet care and ready to build your skills as a dog trainer? Chicago Paws District is hiring a part-time trainer in Uptown Chicago.

You know there’s more to working with dogs than loving them. You notice when a dog is nervous, when excitement is building, and when a group needs a reset. Now you want to learn how to turn those observations into effective training.

You don’t need years of professional training experience. You do need hands-on pet care experience, confidence handling dogs, and familiarity with balanced dog training. We’ll provide paid training in our methods and relationship-based approach.

What you’ll do

• Train dogs using our methods, handling techniques, and safety standards.
• Build your ability to recognize body language, stress, fear, and overstimulation.
• Help conduct temperament assessments and support safe, structured playgroups.
• Teach practical skills that help dogs succeed in everyday life.
• Share clear progress updates with owners and help them reinforce training at home.
• Coordinate with teammates to keep each dog’s care and training consistent.

What you’ll bring

• Hands-on experience in dog daycare, boarding, walking, grooming, veterinary care, or
• another pet care role.
• Familiarity with balanced dog training and willingness to learn and follow our approach.
• Confidence handling dogs of different sizes and temperaments.
• A calm, safety-focused approach, especially when things get busy.
• Reliability, clear communication, and openness to feedback.
• Reliable transportation to our Uptown Chicago location.
• Availability to work some weekends.

Nice to have, but not required: Professional dog training experience, experience with reactive

dogs or high-drive breeds, and strong client communication skills.
