Dog Trainer

Job Overview
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated part time Dog Trainer to join our team.

Our business is pretty simple, we get to help people learn how to properly bond with and handle their dog(s). We teach you our methods and you teach dog owners.

Great for retired individuals, Veterans, or those who want to make some extra money while the kids are at school or to supplement an existing income. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who loves dogs, communicates well with people, and seeks a flexible schedule.

Location - Our training is done in our client's homes. We are looking for a trainer that is able to cover areas in south Mecklenburg County and Union County, such as Matthews, Weddington, Stallings, Waxhaw, and Monroe. Travel will remain within 20 miles from your home.

Note - paid training for this position is to take place within the Charlotte metro area.

General responsibilities:

• Review new client assignments and prepare for initial assessment, reaching out to introduce yourself to new clients.
• Arrive on time to assessments and lessons, conduct thorough assessments detailing all behavior concerns and training goals, and recommending the appropriate training plans for each client, overcoming objections and answering questions as needed.
• Conduct weekly/bi-weekly lessons for clients and their dog(s) with training goals in mind, in alignment with our training philosophy.
• Document progress notes, share photos and videos, and celebrate completion of training in our CRM system.
• Attend supplemental training workshops/seminars, community events, and other team activities based on availability.

What we look for:

• Professionalism & strong communication skills. Our trainers need to be skilled and timely in responding to customer inquiries, able to articulate our training method, discern qualified opportunities and present confidence to clients.
• Use our training methods exclusively. We train instinctual, leadership methodology and therefore, we do not use treats, clickers, or shock collars. We aren't requiring dog training experience, as we will provide ample training on our methods, but it is crucial you have experience with dogs, either personally or professionally.
• Exhibit calm confidence with dogs. You’ll need to keep a high level of patience since you are training canines, they require time and repetition to understand. Dogs perceive nervousness or anxiety/fear and this will greatly affect the success of your training.
• Humility, openness to feedback and learning. We are always learning something new as we are training different dogs with different needs. There may be times when a dog isn’t responding as expected to a particular method and you’ll need to be able to ask for help or admit when you make a mistake. We are here to help and our view is we never stop learning.
• Reliability & Time Management skills. Trainers will need to carefully manage their own time and be considerate of our clients’ time. This is our job, not theirs! They may have children, jobs, or many other demands on their time which may prevent them from practicing or require lessons after hours or on weekends.
• Sense of humor. We train dogs after all, so you’ll need to be fun and open with people so they feel comfortable while you are in their homes. Something silly, embarrassing, or messy will happen so you’ll need to be able to laugh when things get tense.
• Comfortable with all walks of life. Our human clients are as diverse as our dogs! We rarely turn down a client unless it is a service beyond our expertise.

Requirements:

• Must have reliable transportation & ability/willingness to travel to people's homes since lessons are conducted in our clients' homes.
• Permitted to work legally in the US.
• Current dog owner.
• Must be over 25 years of age.
• Must be able to pass a federal background check and have a valid drivers' license.
• Paid training both on operations and dog training will be provided. Successful completion of training hours and demonstration of training skills is required before taking clients - failure to complete satisfactorily will result in termination of contract.

Skills:

• Strong skills in customer service, animal handling, demonstrating patience and understanding of canine behavior.
• Experience in equestrian handling is a plus but not required.
• Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with pet owners and team members.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team environment.

Job Type: Part-time 1099; hours are never guaranteed and may vary significantly based on seasonality and other trends.

Pay: Most trainers can make $40.00 - $50.00 per hour long lesson (commission) plus bonus structure.

Schedule: Flexible, but looking for someone with evenings & weekend availability as many clients work 9-5 jobs.
