What they need
Your dog doesn't have an obedience problem. Your dog has a job problem.
That is how we train at Scentsible K9. We help dogs regulate their nervous systems so they can learn to feel safe and understood in a human world. Regulation first, then skills.
We are a growing Treasure Valley training company. We teach group classes, scent work, tricks, puppy and obedience, and private lessons. We are hiring experienced trainers only. This is not an entry-level role and we do not train people from scratch. You should already be able to walk into a room, read a dog, and run a session with confidence.
What you will do
- Teach group classes (nose work, obedience, tricks, puppy) at our partner locations
- Run private lessons in client homes and at our sites, as you level up
- Read the dog in front of you and adjust the plan to that dog's nervous system
- Coach the human. Most of the job is teaching owners to understand their own dog
- Log every session in our trainer app and send clear homework after each one
What you need (required)
- 2+ years of hands-on dog training experience working with clients' dogs
- Proven experience with fearful, anxious, or reactive dogs
- Confident, safe handling of dogs of all sizes
- You can explain what a dog's body language is telling you, and what you would do about it
- Humane methods. We do not use pain or intimidation to train
- Clear, kind communication with owners who are often stressed
- Reliable transportation and a smartphone
- Available at least two weekday evenings or weekend slots
Nice to have
- Scent work or nose work experience (our cornerstone)
- A certification such as CPDT-KA, KPA, IAABC, or similar
- Experience teaching group classes
- Dog sports background (agility, tricks, rally, scent)
What you get
- Onboarding in our method: trainer handbook, an 11-module certification course, and shadow days before you teach solo
- A clear level path: Apprentice, Certified Trainer, Lead Trainer
- Your own calendar and a trainer app that handles scheduling and session notes
- A team that cares more about the dog than the sale
The honest part
- Evening and weekend work is the core of this job
- You will meet dogs who are scared, loud, or overwhelmed. That is who we exist for
- This is a contract role. You run your own schedule inside the classes and clients you accept
