What they need

About the Role

Talent Way is seeking experienced Dog Trainers to join the team of a well-known animal care and dog training employer in Sydney. This is a hands-on role for someone who genuinely loves working with dogs: you'll build real relationships with every animal in your care, turn nervous pups into confident companions, and give owners the tools and confidence to keep that progress going at home. If you're passionate about positive, reward-based training and take pride in a job done to a high standard, this role offers the chance to make a lasting difference in the lives of dogs and the people who love them.

Key Responsibilities

Training and behaviour

  • Deliver one-on-one sessions, group classes and puppy programs covering obedience, socialisation, lead manners, recall and everyday household behaviour
  • Assess each dog's temperament and behaviour, build an individual training plan and record progress
  • Use humane, reward-based methods, and work with common issues such as fear, reactivity, pulling and separation-related behaviours
  • Coach owners on handling, consistency and at-home practice, with clear verbal and written feedback

Animal handling and welfare

  • Handle dogs of all sizes and temperaments calmly and safely, using correct equipment such as leads, harnesses, head collars and crates
  • Read canine body language and recognise early signs of stress, illness or injury, reporting concerns promptly to the owner or veterinarian
  • Feed, water and exercise dogs according to their individual care plans, and give medication only as directed in writing by the owner or vet
  • Supervise play groups and introductions, and transport dogs safely to and from sessions
  • Provide basic first aid and complete incident reports

Hygiene, biosecurity and grooming

  • Clean and disinfect kennels, crates, training areas, equipment and vehicles to the required standard
  • Follow vaccination checks and infection-control procedures to reduce the spread of disease
  • Dispose of animal waste safely and handle cleaning chemicals and personal protective equipment in line with safety data sheets
  • Carry out routine grooming and coat care as part of daily care, including brushing, bathing, drying, nail trimming, and ear and eye cleaning
  • Check skin, coat, teeth and paws for parasites or problems, and report what you find

Compliance and records

  • Work safely under WHS requirements and meet animal welfare obligations under NSW law
  • Keep accurate client and animal records
  • Communicate professionally with clients, veterinarians and colleagues

About You

  • Certificate III or IV in Animal Care, Companion Animal Services, or dog behaviour and training, or at least three years of relevant paid experience training and handling dogs
  • Proven experience delivering obedience and behaviour training for client-owned dogs
  • Practical knowledge of dog grooming and kennel hygiene
  • A calm, confident handler who can safely lift and restrain dogs and work outdoors in all weather
  • Strong spoken and written English
  • Current driver licence preferred
  • Pet first aid certificate preferred
  • Availability for rostered hours, including some weekends

What's On Offer

  • Full-time permanent position, about 38 hours per week
  • $80,000 – $85,000 per year plus superannuation
  • Ongoing training and career progression
  • [Insert any employer-specific benefits]
