What they need
WAGGIN & WALKIN is an established professional dog walking and pet care business in Milton Keynes, and we’re looking for reliable, enthusiastic and dog-loving people to join our growing team of subcontractors.
If you genuinely love dogs and enjoy being outdoors, we’d love to hear from you.
Location
Ideally, applicants should live within approximately 1–2 miles of Oxley Park, Shenley Wood, Crownhill or the surrounding areas, to keep travelling to a minimum.
Our walks are concentrated mainly across MK4, MK5 and MK8, so living locally is important.
About the Role
This is a self-employed subcontractor position with the opportunity to build a regular schedule as our customer base continues to grow.
Walks take place Monday to Friday, generally between 9am and 4pm, including during school holidays. You will be offered walks within this time window, depending on customer demand and your availability.
We are particularly looking for availability on:
- Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays – essential
- Mondays and Tuesdays – desirable for additional work and holiday cover
- School holidays – availability is important as our service operates all year round
Initially, you may be offered a smaller number of walks while you become familiar with our dogs, routines and way of working. As you become established and our customer base grows, there is an opportunity to build this into a more regular schedule.
Due to the nature of a growing business, hours cannot be guaranteed.
We’re Looking For Someone Who:
- Genuinely loves dogs and puts their safety and welfare first
- Has previous experience with dogs, whether professionally or through ownership/handling
- Is confident handling dogs of different breeds, sizes and personalities
- Is reliable, punctual and trustworthy
- Has excellent common sense and can make good decisions independently
- Is physically fit and happy walking outdoors in all weather conditions
- Is friendly, positive and professional
- Is comfortable working as part of a team while also working independently
Requirements
You must have:
- A full UK driving licence
- Own a suitable 5‑door vehicle (hatchback/estate/4x4) for safely transporting dogs
- Previous experience with dogs
- Availability on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays
- Availability during school holidays
Your vehicle must be safe, suitable and appropriate for transporting dogs
A DBS check will be required if you are offered the role. We can help you arrange this.
What Does Self-Employed Subcontracting Mean?
As a self-employed subcontractor, you can choose the availability you offer and build your work around your existing commitments, subject to available work and client requirements.
There is no minimum guaranteed number of hours.
Pay rates depend on the particular work undertaken and are calculated per dog walked.
You will be self-employed and will work with WAGGIN & WALKIN as a subcontractor rather than as an employee. You will therefore be responsible for your own tax and National Insurance.
What We Offer
- Work with an established local dog walking and pet care business
- Full introduction to our dogs, routines and way of working
- Training and support
- A friendly and professional team environment
- The opportunity to build regular work as our client base grows
- The chance to become a valued and trusted member of our team of subcontractors
Who Could This Suit?
This role could suit someone looking to build regular daytime work around existing commitments, such as someone who:
- Works from home
- Works part-time
- Has flexible daytime availability
- Is semi-retired or retired
- Wants to spend more time outdoors
- Simply loves being around dogs
Parents with school-age children may also find dog walking suits them, provided suitable childcare is available during school holidays.
If you’re reliable, experienced with dogs and genuinely passionate about providing excellent care, we’d love to hear from you.
