What they need
Martin House provides free specialist palliative care to babies, children and young people with complex and life-shortening conditions. Families from across West, North and East Yorkshire have access to our care 24/7, 365 days a year, including specialist doctors. Every year we care for more than 550 families, at the hospice, in hospital and in families’ own homes, as well as supporting around 200 bereaved family members.
We're excited to be opening our brand-new Martin House ‘Big Shop’ in Beverley and we're looking for enthusiastic, customer-focused team members to be part of the journey from day one. We're looking for a practical, organised and customer-focused individual to join our Retail team as a Donation Centre Assistant. This varied, hands-on role is central to ensuring donated stock moves efficiently from our supporters to our shops.
Working closely with the Big Shop & Donation Centre Manager, you'll help coordinate deliveries and collections, support volunteers, maintain stock levels and ensure goods are safely stored and distributed across the Martin House retail network. As a key ambassador for Martin House, you'll build positive relationships with donors, customers, volunteers and corporate supporters, helping to maximise the value of donations and generate income to support the vital work of the hospice.
The role will involve:
Managing the day-to-day operation of the Donation Centre and Donation Station.
Supporting the movement of donated stock, supplies and new goods between the Donation Centre and Martin House shops.
Driving Martin House vehicles to deliver stock and collect donations from supporters and corporate partners.
Coordinating volunteer drivers and volunteers to ensure collections and deliveries are completed safely and efficiently.
Maintaining safe and organised stock storage areas.
Promoting and processing Gift Aid to maximise income from donations.
Identifying high-value donations and working with the Online Sales Team to maximise revenue.
Providing excellent customer service to donors and supporters.
Acting as a keyholder and helping to maintain the security of the premises.
Providing cover within the adjoining Big Shop during holidays and busy periods.
Our ideal candidate: You'll be someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, can manage a variety of tasks and is comfortable working both independently and as part of a team. You'll have strong communication skills and enjoy building positive relationships with colleagues, volunteers and supporters.
