We wake up every morning saying yes to connecting people and animals, caring for them and helping them fill each other’s hearts.
Our Passion
We’re passionate about creating a world where people and animals thrive together. Our work is guided by a deep understanding of the interconnectedness and interdependence of all living beings and a commitment to nurturing those relationships.
Our Vision
Imagine a world where every person has a supportive community, every animal has a loving home, and every connection is filled with compassion and understanding. We do this by supporting and creating communities that nourish the bonds between people and animals.
Position Summary
The Donor Engagement Coordinator is responsible for creating meaningful, personal connections with donors, community groups, and corporate partners. The Coordinator will manage engagement with donors, create donor experiences and events, and coordinate group engagement and micro-fundraising opportunities. The ideal candidate thrives in engaging with people, is comfortable picking up the phone and starting a conversation, and gets excited about finding creative ways to connect supporters with our mission. This person is both a relationship builder and a strong executor - someone who can dream up a great donor experience and then make sure every detail happens.
Key Responsibilities
Donor Engagement
● Personally reach out to donors through phone calls, email, handwritten notes, and other individualized communication to thank them and learn more about what inspires their connection to The Bond Between.
● Invite and host donors for events, tours, open houses, animal intakes, volunteer opportunities, and other behind-the-scenes experiences.
● Host informal donor experiences such as coffee gatherings, small-group tours, and mission-focused open houses.
● Identify donors who may be interested in becoming more involved through volunteering, events, peer-to-peer fundraising, increased giving, or other opportunities.
● Work with the Development team to identify donors who may be ready for deeper cultivation or major-gift engagement.
● Ensure donors in identified giving ranges receive meaningful personal touches throughout the year - not just when we are asking for a gift.
● Maintain accurate notes and donor engagement activity in the organization's CRM.
Donor Events & Experiences
● Develop small-scale donor engagement events throughout the year.
● Coordinate donor tours, open houses, behind-the-scenes experiences, animal intake opportunities, and other mission-centered gatherings.
● Develop and manage donor engagement opportunities connected to larger events, including the Bone Appétit Gala.
● Create thoughtful donor activations that make events feel personal, memorable, and connected to impact.
● Manage event logistics including invitations, RSVPs, setup, participant communication, on-site hosting, and follow-up.
● Partner with Development, Marketing, Volunteer, Rescue, Veterinary, and Social Services teams to create engaging donor experiences without disrupting program operations.
● Evaluate engagement activities and recommend which experiences should be repeated, expanded, or changed.
Group Activations & Micro-Fundraising
● Coordinate group engagement opportunities for corporate and community partners such as Dell, 3M, and other local organizations.
● Work with groups to identify meaningful activities that meet organizational needs while providing a great participant experience.
● Develop creative micro-fundraising opportunities that combine hands-on engagement with fundraising or financial support.
● Coordinate logistics before each activation, including scheduling, group communication, supplies, staffing, and internal coordination.
● Be present to welcome and manage groups during activations when appropriate and share The Bond Between's mission and impact with participants to help them understand how their involvement supports people and animals.
● Ensure groups receive timely and meaningful follow-up and thanks after participating.
● Look for opportunities to turn one-time group participation into ongoing relationships, repeat activations, corporate support, individual donors, volunteers, or event participation.
● Maintain records of group engagement, participation, fundraising, and follow-up.
● Attend small events and talk about The BB when donors want to present donations in their space
You may be a great fit for this role if you:
● Genuinely enjoy meeting new people and building relationships.
● Are comfortable calling someone you don't know and starting a warm, authentic conversation.
● Can make donors feel appreciated without making every interaction feel like a fundraising ask.
● Are an enthusiastic host who enjoys welcoming people into an organization and helping them feel included.
● Are creative and enjoy developing new ways for people to experience a mission.
● Can independently coordinate the details necessary to turn an idea into a successful event.
● Are organized, responsive, and reliable with follow-through.
● Are comfortable managing several small events, relationships, and projects simultaneously.
● Communicate warmly and professionally in person, by phone, and in writing.
● Can occasionally work evenings or weekends when donor events or group activations require it.
● Are comfortable working around animals and in the sometimes unpredictable environment of an animal welfare organization.
● Believe deeply in The Bond Between's mission and the power of connecting people and animals.
Qualifications:
● Proven background in fundraising, donor relations, hospitality, event execution, volunteer
management, community engagement, customer success, sales, or account management.
● Demonstrated ability to connect authentically with diverse stakeholders and foster long-term, trust-based partnerships.
● Skilled in designing and delivering exceptional, high-touch experiences for donors, clients, or community members.
● Strong organizational skills with a track record of consistent follow-through and dependability.
Preferred Qualifications:
● Experience in nonprofit fundraising or development is a plus, but transferable skills and a
relationship-driven mindset are prioritized over a traditional development background.
Schedule
This is a part-time position averaging approximately 20 hours per week. Because the role includes donor experiences and corporate/community activations, some flexibility for evening or weekend events is required. The position will include a combination of relationship outreach, planning/administrative work, and in-person engagement at The Bond Between locations and community events.
