What they need
Legends don't stop. Neither do the people who keep them running.
Since 1833, Cooper Machinery Services has built the compressors and engines that keep the world's energy moving, including Cooper-Bessemer™, Ajax™, and Superior™. More than 22,000 of those units are still running today, and the people in our shops keep them running.
As a Downstream Mechanic IV in Deer Park, you'll be the recognized Subject Matter Expert on your assigned reciprocating compressor platforms, both Cooper OEM and non-OEM. You'll diagnose the hard problems, restore and overhaul equipment, and train the next generation of mechanics. Engineering will come to you for answers, and contractors will answer to you on quality. If you're a master of your craft and want your expertise to count, this is the role.
What you will do
- Serve as the go-to SME for your assigned Cooper OEM and non-OEM compressor platforms
- Independently troubleshoot and find the root cause of recurring failures on reciprocating engines, compressors, pumps, and associated components
- Perform advanced diagnostics, restoration, and overhauls on reciprocating compressors
- Support upgrade projects that extend equipment life and improve performance and reliability
- Support the manufacture of new compressor cylinders and precision components
- Provide Quality Assurance/Quality Control over third-party contractors performing major maintenance on individual assignments
- Work directly with Engineering on repairs, parts conditions, and equipment history
- Develop and deliver formal on-the-job training, skills assessments, and competency verifications for Mechanic I, II, and III team members
- Help write and update shop work instructions, SOPs, and repair guidelines
- Lead by example on safety, and keep documentation accurate and complete, including regulatory inspections, SAP orders, safe job plans/work permits, and timesheets
