Draftsman / Estimator

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Structural / Civil Draftsman & Estimator to prepare accurate technical drawings, quantity takeoffs, material estimates, and project cost estimates for structural and civil construction projects.

The successful candidate will be responsible for translating design concepts, plans, and project requirements into clear and accurate drawings while also preparing detailed estimates to support project budgeting, bidding, procurement, and construction activities.

Key Responsibilities

Drafting & Technical Documentation

• Prepare detailed structural and civil drawings using CAD software.
• Develop plans, elevations, sections, details, and construction drawings based on engineering designs and project requirements.
• Prepare reinforcement details, structural layouts, foundation plans, and other relevant construction drawings.
• Review drawings for accuracy, completeness, dimensions, specifications, and compliance with project requirements.
• Revise and update drawings based on design changes, site conditions, and client/engineer comments.
• Coordinate drawings with engineers, project managers, contractors, and other disciplines.
• Maintain proper drawing standards, revisions, file organization, and documentation.
• Assist in preparing as-built drawings when required.

Estimating & Quantity Takeoff

• Prepare accurate quantity takeoffs from structural and civil drawings.
• Calculate quantities for concrete, reinforcement steel, structural materials, formwork, masonry, excavation, backfilling, and other construction works.
• Prepare detailed material, labor, and equipment estimates.
• Develop project cost estimates based on drawings, specifications, material prices, labor rates, and project requirements.
• Prepare Bills of Quantities (BOQ), cost breakdowns, and material summaries.
• Review plans and specifications to identify scope, quantities, and potential discrepancies.
• Obtain and compare supplier/subcontractor quotations when required.
• Assist in preparing tender and bid proposals.
• Identify potential cost-saving opportunities and material alternatives.
• Monitor changes in scope and assist with preparing revised estimates and variation costs.

Qualifications

• Diploma, certificate, or degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Drafting, Construction Technology, or a related field.
• Proven experience as a Draftsman, Estimator, Quantity Surveyor, or similar construction-related position.
• Strong knowledge of structural and civil construction methods and materials.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD or other relevant drafting software.
• Good knowledge of quantity takeoff and construction cost estimation.
• Ability to read and interpret structural, architectural, and civil drawings.
• Familiarity with construction specifications, BOQs, and project documentation.
• Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
• Good attention to detail and accuracy.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with structural steel, reinforced concrete, foundations, and civil works.
• Knowledge of reinforcement bar (rebar) detailing and bar bending schedules.
• Experience using estimating or quantity takeoff software.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to interpret engineering specifications and construction documents.
• Understanding of local construction practices, material pricing, and labor costs.
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
