Draftsman/AutoCAD Operator

Job Summary

The AutoCAD Operator / Draftsman is responsible for preparing, drafting, revising, and maintaining accurate technical drawings, construction plans, and layouts using AutoCAD software. The position assists the Engineering, Architectural, and Construction teams in translating sketches, design concepts, site measurements, and technical specifications into detailed drawings for construction, renovation, and project implementation.

The role ensures that all drawings are accurate, properly dimensioned, updated according to approved revisions, and compliant with project specifications and applicable technical standards.

Job Qualifications

• Graduate of a vocational course, diploma, or bachelor's degree in Drafting Technology, Architecture, Civil Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Completion of an AutoCAD training program or certification is an advantage.

Technical Skills

• Proficient in AutoCAD 2D drafting; knowledge of AutoCAD 3D is an advantage.
• Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and engineering drawings.
• Knowledge of construction drawing standards, dimensions, scales, symbols, and technical specifications.
• Familiarity with building plans, floor plans, elevations, sections, and construction details.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word.
• Familiarity with SketchUp, Revit, or other drafting and design software is an advantage.

Work Experience

• Preferably with 1–2 years of experience in AutoCAD drafting or construction-related work.
• Fresh graduates or applicants with relevant technical training may be considered.
• Experience in preparing architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing, or mechanical drawings is an advantage.

Job Description and Key Responsibilities

A. Preparation of Technical Drawings

• Prepare detailed 2D drawings using AutoCAD based on approved sketches, plans, and technical specifications.
• Draft floor plans, elevations, sections, layouts, and construction details.
• Assist in preparing architectural, structural, and other engineering drawings as assigned.
• Convert hand-drawn sketches and field measurements into accurate digital drawings.

B. Drawing Revision and Documentation

• Revise drawings based on instructions from the Project Engineer, Architect, or Design Engineer.
• Update drawings to reflect approved changes and actual site conditions.
• Maintain proper file naming, drawing numbers, revision dates, and document control.
• Organize and maintain digital and printed copies of drawings for reference and implementation.

C. Site Measurement and Coordination

• Conduct site measurements and inspections when required.
• Coordinate with engineers, architects, quantity surveyors, and construction personnel to verify dimensions and technical details.
• Identify discrepancies between approved drawings and actual site conditions and report them to the concerned engineer.
• Assist in preparing as-built drawings based on verified site measurements and approved records.

D. Construction and Project Support

• Provide updated drawings to authorized project personnel.
• Assist in preparing drawings required for construction planning, renovation, and project implementation.
• Support the Quantity Surveyor in providing drawing details needed for quantity takeoffs and cost estimates.
• Ensure that only the latest approved drawings are issued for construction.

E. Quality Control and Compliance

• Check drawings for accuracy, completeness, dimensions, annotations, and consistency.
• Follow company drafting standards, project specifications, and applicable technical requirements.
• Incorporate corrections and revisions as instructed by authorized technical personnel.
• Maintain confidentiality and proper control of company drawings and project documents.
