Drainlayer

We are a well established Civil construction company in Christchurch, with 25+ years is business, we pride ourselves on delivering high quality workmanship to our loyal clients. We are seeking an experienced Drainlayer to join our growing team.

This is a hands-on role working in Christchurch. You will have proven skills with installation, repairing and maintaining a drainage system. Your primary task is to integrate and support the current team of drainlayers and labourers, learning how to diagnose problems and identify solutions to resolve them.

Key responsibilities

• Read and understand drainage plans
• Install new pipes and drainage systems under supervision, in accordance with the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Act 2006
• Inspect, repair, and maintain drainage, sewer, stormwater systems that are damaged or blocked
• Dig and infill trenches either by hand or by operating an excavator (1.7T, 2.7T)
• Draw As-built plans and explain your work to a council inspector
• Assist with loading and unloading of various materials from work vehicles, ensuring all loads are secured with blocks and tie downs
• Operate hand tools and care for equipment and machinery as directed
• Perform daily vehicle checks and daily machinery checks before loading and leaving the yard
• Load all materials and equipment needed for the job and ensure all is returned
• Lift heavy pavers, equipment, and objects using safe lift practices
• Work as a team member, follow instructions and help when needed
• Perform site clean-up
• Abide by the company's Health and Safety policies and wear correct PPE onsite

About you

• You will hold a Restricted Drainlayers license or be actively working towards one
• Hold a current valid New Zealand Drivers' License or be prepared to gain one, endorsed with appropriate Classes as needed to drive vehicles you are delegated
• Ready to learn from on-the-job training when necessary
• Able to keep an eye on those working alongside you for the safety and well-being of everyone

What We're Looking For

• Prior industrial or construction experience (ideal)
• Physically fit and comfortable with manual work
• Reliable, punctual, and strong work ethic
• Able to follow instructions and work well in a team
• Reliable transport to get to site
• Able to pass a pre-employment drug test
• Clean MOJ check
• Site Safe certificate preferred (we can help you obtain one)
• Must have valid NZ working rights
