Driller / Piling Rig Operator

Sydney Earthworks is seeking two experienced Driller / Piling Rig Operators to join our growing team and support our civil construction, earthworks, infrastructure and foundation projects across Sydney and New South Wales.

This is a hands-on role for experienced operators with a strong background in bored piling, deep foundation drilling and heavy drilling equipment. You will be responsible for safely setting up, positioning & drilling foundations in accordance with engineering drawings, survey information, project specifications and site safety requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include:

• Set up, position, level and operate drilling and piling rigs
• Carry out bored piling and deep foundation drilling
• Drill boreholes to specified depth, diameter, alignment and position
• Operate rotary drilling rigs, augers, drilling buckets and associated attachments
• Install and extract temporary and permanent casing
• Monitor borehole conditions and changing ground conditions
• Use and monitor bentonite or other drilling fluids where required
• Maintain correct pile position, verticality and alignment
• Assist with reinforcement cage installation
• Coordinate and support concreting of bored piles
• Record drilling depth, penetration rates, ground conditions and production information
• Conduct daily pre-start inspections of drilling equipment
• Identify and report mechanical, hydraulic and operational faults
• Carry out minor routine maintenance and equipment checks within your competency
• Follow engineering drawings, survey points and project specifications
• Work safely around excavators, cranes, piling equipment and other heavy plant
• Maintain safe exclusion zones and work areas
• Work closely with project managers, supervisors, engineers, surveyors and ground crews
• Follow Sydney Earthworks WHS procedures, SWMS and project safety requirements
• Assist with mobilisation and relocation of drilling equipment between work areas
• Maintain a clean, organised and safe work area

What We Are Looking For

Applicants must have substantial practical experience as a:

Driller, Drilling Rig Operator or Piling Rig Operator.

You should be able to demonstrate:

• Strong experience in bored piling and foundation drilling
• Experience operating rotary drilling or piling rigs
• Experience drilling to specified depths and diameters
• Experience installing temporary and/or permanent casing
• Experience working from engineering drawings and survey set-out
• Knowledge of pile alignment and verticality requirements
• Experience using drilling fluids or bentonite where applicable
• Strong understanding of drilling and piling equipment
• Experience completing daily plant inspections and pre-starts
• Experience working around heavy earthmoving and civil construction equipment
• Strong commitment to workplace health and safety
• Ability to work effectively with supervisors, engineers and ground crews
• Ability to work across different project sites throughout Sydney and NSW

Experience in any of the following will be highly regarded:

• Soilmec drilling and piling rigs
• Bored piling
• CFA piling
• Deep foundation construction
• Major civil infrastructure projects
• Road foundation works
• Earthworks and excavation projects
• Large-scale civil construction
• Pile load testing
• Pile integrity testing
• Large-diameter piling
• Deep bore drilling
• Crawler crane operation
• Hydraulic piling and drilling equipment

Qualifications & Requirements

Applicants should have:

• Relevant drilling, piling or heavy equipment operating experience
• Relevant plant or heavy equipment qualifications where applicable
• Strong knowledge of construction-site safety
• Ability to complete Sydney Earthworks and principal contractor competency assessments
• White Card and relevant High Risk Work licences/tickets where required for the role
• Current driver's licence where required for the role
• Ability to complete project-specific inductions and competency verification

Additional hours, site work and travel between project locations may be required depending on operational and project requirements.
