What they need

We’re looking for an enthusiastic, energetic Driver and Distribution Support to support our food rescue activities from Thursdays to Sundays.

About Us

Nourished for Nil is a Hawke’s Bay charity dedicated to enhancing food security through food rescue, food banks and social supermarkets. We rescue surplus food that would otherwise go to landfill and redistribute it to the community with no eligibility criteria. Last year, we rescued more than 1,200 tonnes of food, providing over 106,000 opportunities for people in our community to access free food across Hastings and Napier. Nourished for Nil also runs two Food Banks and two Social Supermarkets, which are accessed by referral from over 100 partner agencies.

About the Role

As our Driver & Distribution Support, you’ll be out collecting rescued food from our generous donor partners, keeping our vehicles running smoothly, and lending a hand at our busy Saturday distribution service in Hastings.

We’re looking for someone trustworthy and dependable, who takes pride in doing a great job, working safely, and representing Nourished for Nil in a professional manner.

Hours

This part-time role is 25 hours per week, spread over Thursday to Sunday. The likely hours on those days are as follows:

Thursday: 7am–2pm

Friday: 7am–2.30pm

Saturday: 7am–1pm

Sunday: 6.30am–11am

What You’ll Be Doing

Food Collection & Transport

·                Collecting rescued food from donor partners on schedule

·                Safely loading, transporting and unloading food

·                Completing collection records and paperwork

·                Maintaining food safety and hygiene standards on the road

·                Building great relationships with our food donors

Vehicle Care

·                Routine vehicle checks and prompt reporting of any issues

·                Keeping vehicles clean, tidy and presentable

·                Making sure vehicles are fuelled/charged and ready to go

·                Driving safely and following our vehicle policies

Saturday Distribution Support

·                Helping set up and pack down our Saturday distribution service

·                Supporting a safe, welcoming service for the community

·                Helping volunteers and keeping stock moving

·                Pitching in wherever needed to solve problems on the day

General

·                Supporting the wider logistics team as needed

·                Following our health and safety procedures

·                Bringing a positive attitude to everything you do

What You’ll Bring

Essential:

·                Full, clean Class 1 NZ driver licence (and willingness to work towards Class 2)

·                Ability to safely lift and move crates of food

·                Forklift licence, or willingness to obtain one

·                Good organisation and time-management skills

·                Reliable, punctual, and comfortable working independently

·                Friendly, clear communication and people skills

Nice to have:

·                Experience driving vans, light trucks or commercial vehicles

·                Experience with volunteers, community groups or the not-for-profit sector

·                Knowledge of food safety and safe handling practices

What We Offer

·                Meaningful work that reduces food waste and supports your local community

·                A supportive, purpose-driven team who genuinely enjoy what they do

·                Training and development, including forklift certification if you need it

·                The chance to make a real, visible difference in Hawke’s Bay every week
