What they need
Starr Bus Charter & Tours has been family-owned for nearly 80 years, and we’re now in our third generation. Our drivers are the face of the company, and we take hiring, qualifying, and supporting them seriously.
This is a fast-paced, deadline-driven role. You'll screen and interview applicants, run every step of pre-employment compliance, work with our training department to schedule and track each new hire's training from first road test to final road test, and keep every driver's qualification file complete and current. You'll often be the first voice a driver candidate hears from Starr, so clear, friendly, and timely communication is a big part of the job.
What You'll Do
- Run driver recruiting end to end: manage job ads and recruiting spend with our Indeed account team, review applications and MVRs, conduct phone screens and interviews, and schedule road tests
- Manage pre-employment compliance, including DOT physicals and drug screens, background checks, FMCSA Clearinghouse queries, PSP reports, and verification of employment requests
- Prepare offer letters and administer new-hire onboarding paperwork, including I-9 verification, tax forms, and payroll setup with accounting
- Partner with our training department to schedule new-hire training and track each trainee's progress, and set up trainees in our dispatch, telematics, and training systems
- Build and maintain Driver Qualification files to FMCSA standards, including road test certificates, annual reviews, and medical certification records
- Monitor ongoing compliance for all CDL holders, including license and medical card renewals, random and follow-up drug testing, semi-annual MVRs, and annual Clearinghouse queries
- Issue driver equipment and keep personnel records, contact lists, and insurer rosters up to date
What We're Looking For
Required:
- At least 1 year of experience in HR, recruiting, onboarding, or compliance administration
- Experience conducting phone screens or interviews with job candidates
- Experience handling confidential personnel, payroll, or medical information
- Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 suite
- Ability to work in-office full-time, Monday through Friday
Preferred:
- Familiarity with FMCSA/DOT regulations (DQ files, drug and alcohol testing, Clearinghouse, PSP)
- Experience with I-9 verification and new-hire paperwork
- Experience with Avatar Technology, an applicant tracking system, or similar compliance or HR software
- Proficiency using AI tools to draft documents, organize information, and streamline routine work
Pay & Benefits
- $23.00–$25.00/hour, paid bi-weekly, based on experience
- Medical, dental, and vision benefits
- Paid holidays, paid vacation, and paid sick time
- 401(k), company-paid life insurance, and short-term disability
- Employee discounts on Starr Tours vacations for you and your family
