Responsibilities

• Safely operate school buses, transit buses, or paratransit vehicles according to established routes and schedules.
• Ensure passenger safety by following all traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations.
• Assist students with boarding and exiting the bus, including wheelchair assistance and behavior management when necessary.
• Maintain discipline onboard by applying school policy knowledge and effective communication skills.
• Conduct pre-trip inspections to verify vehicle mechanical condition, including checking brakes, lights, signals, and emergency equipment.
• Respond quickly to traffic changes or emergencies with appropriate emergency response procedures such as emergency stop procedures or first aid if needed.
• Communicate clearly with students, parents, school staff, and dispatchers to ensure smooth operations and address any concerns promptly.

Requirements

• Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for school bus operation.
• Proven experience in bus driving, including school bus driving or transit bus operation preferred.
• Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, transportation safety regulations, and emergency response procedures for transportation.
• Ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting students or handling equipment safely.
• First aid certification (including CPR) is highly desirable; willingness to obtain if not already certified.
• Experience working with children or in childcare settings is a plus; strong behavior management skills are essential.
• Multilingual abilities or bilingual skills are advantageous for serving diverse communities.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to respond quickly to traffic changes and maintain passenger safety at all times.
• Mechanical knowledge of vehicle systems is beneficial for routine inspections and troubleshooting minor issues.

Pay: $25.79 - $29.00 per hour
