Driver/Direct Support Professional

Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professional to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in supporting individuals with disabilities, helping them achieve their personal goals and enhance their quality of life. This position requires a strong commitment to fostering independence and providing assistance in daily living activities.

Responsibilities

• Assist individuals with personal care tasks, including bathing, grooming, and dressing.
• Support clients in developing and maintaining daily living skills.
• Facilitate community integration by accompanying clients on outings and appointments.
• Communicate effectively with clients to understand their needs and preferences.
• Maintain a safe and supportive environment for all individuals in your care.
• Document client progress and report any changes or concerns to the appropriate personnel.
• Collaborate with other team members to create individualized support plans.
• Utilize various transportation methods as needed, including bus driving, paratransit, or flatbed driving for client outings.
• Accompany individuals to appointments, outings, and social activities
• Provide companionship and emotional support
• Maintain a clean and safe environment
• Document and report any changes in behavior or health status

Experience

• Previous experience in a direct support role or related field is preferred but not required.
• Skills in operating equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, or buses are beneficial.
• Strong communication skills are essential for effectively interacting with clients and team members.
• Mechanical knowledge is a plus for assisting with equipment maintenance or troubleshooting.
• Experience in route driving or school bus driving can enhance your ability to transport clients safely.

Requirements:

• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
• Ability to lift heavy objects and perform physical tasks as needed
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Compassionate and patient demeanor
• Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
• Basic knowledge of social work principles and practices is a plus
