What they need
Do you teach Drums? Perhaps Bass, Guitar, Keys, or Vocals too? We're seeking an experienced music instructor who is friendly, enthusiastic about music education, and enjoys working with both children and adults. All of our teachers are working musicians and/or music students, and absolutely love what they do. In particular, we are looking for an instructor who can work 2-3 days per week, including either a Saturday or a Sunday.
School of Rock is the original performance-based, interactive music school founded in 1998 in Philadelphia. With over 400 schools internationally and a strong, internationally recognized brand, School of Rock is the largest provider of after-school music education. Our mission is to help kids rock their worlds, on and off the stage.
Our school is located in Terra Linda and serves a fantastic community of over 300 students. We combine weekly lessons with directed band rehearsals and teach through the live shows we present six times a year. Our working environment is well-organized, well-equipped, and fun. We love what we do, and it's extremely rewarding!
Benefits of working with us include:
- Accrued paid sick and vacation time
- Matching retirement plan
- Flexibility
- Engaged Students (including adults)
- A fully equipped workplace with a great staff kitchen (free food!)
- Super cool coworkers, who love what they do and support each other ;-)
- Rewarding work that feels like play
We teach five core areas at School of Rock: Drums, Guitar, Vocals, Keys, and Bass. Many of our instructors have broader musical talent as well, which we do our best to engage. We provide comprehensive training and support to enable our instructors to thrive.
Music Instruction:
- Maximize the quality of music instruction in one-on-one lessons and, potentially, group rehearsals
- Be sure the students are learning the fundamentals of music, not just songs
- Create thoughtful lesson plans tailored to the student
- Document lesson notes
Customer Connection:
- Communicate regularly with parents on the progress of students after lessons
- Interact with parents and students regularly by being visible and accessible in the school
- Pitch in during canceled lessons in the overall execution of the program
- Adheres to the SOR Code of Conduct, safety policies, including the Monitoring and Supervision policy.
Skill Requirements:
- Experience teaching and/or performing music professionally
- Knowledge of music theory
- Excellent ability to deal well with a wide range of customers and other people
- Strong organizational skills
- Great customer relations skills
- Resourceful and good problem-solver
- Works well under pressure
- Our Ideal candidate is a working musician who also has formal music school training
- Enthusiastic, flexible, patient, and positive demeanor
- Good judgment is a must
- Passion for teaching
- Embraces technology and learning platforms as provided by the School of Rock
