What they need

About the Waalitj Foundation:

The Waalitj Foundation is a not for profit organisation that strives to be a leader in the provision of education, business and employment opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians. We aim to influence and inspire the empowerment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people through our diverse work force, which is led by our First Australian role models. We are passionate about our focus in providing education and employment opportunities.

About the Position

We are looking for an energetic, engaging, and friendly Engagement Officer to join our North Albany team. This role is central to building strong relationships with students, delivering engaging sessions, and supporting attendance and participation in school and program activities.

As an Engagement Officer, you will mentor students, run workshop sessions, and help develop strategies that improve school attendance and engagement. You will work closely in partnership with the Student Support Officer to ensure students have wraparound support, clear pathways, and consistent follow‑up.

We are a supportive and family‑friendly organisation, offering flexibility within an accountable framework. While school‑based roles benefit from structured school‑holiday downtime, we expect high levels of reliability, communication, and engagement during school term delivery. This ensures consistent engagement and meaningful support for students in achieving their educational goals.

  • Positively engage and mentor young First Nations women
  • Deliver engaging, culturally responsive sessions and activities
  • Support school attendance and actively participate in attendance strategies
  • Build strong relationships with school staff, families, and community
  • Work closely with the Student Support Officer to coordinate support
  • Identify emerging student needs and contribute to intervention plans
  • Promote a culturally safe, inclusive, and supportive environment
  • Uphold WHS, wellbeing, and risk management processes
  • Represent the program with professionalism and cultural integrity

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience working with young people in education, sport, youth work, or community services
  • Strong understanding of First Nations cultures and community connections
  • Confident in engaging groups and leading youth activities
  • Passion for building confidence, identity, and wellbeing in young women
  • Reliable, proactive, and able to maintain strong communication
  • Ability to work collaboratively with schools, families, and internal staff
  • Culturally sensitive approach to leadership and mentoring

Why Join Us?

  • Play a key role in inspiring and empowering young First Nations women
  • Be part of a culturally strong, supportive, and community‑driven organisation
  • Enjoy structured school‑holiday downtime as part of a 52‑week contract
  • Access professional development and growth opportunities
  • Work in a team that values cultural integrity, wellbeing, and inclusion

  • 'C' class driver's licence
  • Working With Children Check
  • National Police Clearance
  • Education Department clearance
