DSP (Direct Support Professional)

Overview
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a vital role in providing assistance and support to individuals with disabilities or special needs. This position is essential for fostering independence and enhancing the quality of life for those in care. The DSP will work closely with clients in various settings, including group homes and assisted living facilities, ensuring their daily needs are met while promoting a safe and nurturing environment.

Duties

• Assist clients with daily living activities such as personal hygiene, meal preparation, and medication management.
• Provide companionship and emotional support to enhance the well-being of individuals.
• Implement individualized care plans tailored to each client's specific needs and preferences.
• Support clients in participating in recreational activities and community engagement.
• Ensure a clean and safe living environment by performing light housekeeping duties, including cooking and cleaning.
• Assist with heavy lifting when necessary to support clients with mobility challenges.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations while documenting client progress and incidents.

Skills

• Experience in group home settings or caregiving roles is highly desirable.
• Strong interpersonal skills to build trusting relationships with clients.
• Ability to perform heavy lifting as required by the needs of the clients.
• Knowledge of home care practices and assisted living protocols.
• Familiarity with nursing principles may be beneficial but not required.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective interaction with clients, families, and team members.
