Duty Manager

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Duty Manager to join the team at Distinction Rotorua Hotel and Conference Centre. This is a full-time position that plays a crucial operational role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of our hotel. As Duty Manager, you will be the senior on-site representative during your shifts, responsible for maintaining exceptional guest experiences, managing staff, and overseeing all front office and guest services operations. This role is fundamental to delivering our commitment to hospitality excellence and guest satisfaction.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee all front office and food and beverage guest services operations during assigned shifts, ensuring seamless guest check-in and check-out procedures
• Manage and supervise team, providing guidance, support and performance feedback to ensure high service standards
• Handle guest inquiries, concerns and complaints with professionalism and resolve issues promptly to ensure guest satisfaction
• Monitor hotel security, safety and cleanliness standards throughout the property
• Coordinate with housekeeping, maintenance and other departments to ensure operational efficiency
• Manage room allocations, special requests and VIP guest requirements
• Process financial transactions, manage cash handling and ensure accurate record-keeping
• Conduct regular property inspections and address maintenance issues or safety concerns
• Prepare shift reports and communicate important information to management and incoming staff
• Represent the hotel professionally and uphold brand standards at all times
• This is a hands on position and the right person needs to be able to jump in and assist the team in any of our outlets.

What we're looking for

• Proven experience working in a hotel front office or guest services environment, ideally in a supervisory capacity
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a team effectively
• Excellent customer service skills and a genuine commitment to delivering exceptional guest experiences
• Proficiency in hotel management systems and front office software
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure, particularly during peak periods or challenging situations
• Strong organisational and time management capabilities
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations and hospitality best practices
• Flexibility to work shifts including evenings, weekends and public holidays as required
• A proven track record of maintaining high standards of professionalism and attention to detail
• You must have a NZ drivers licence and an managers certificate for liquor licencing
