Duty Manager

About the role

Bay Establishments Ltd is seeking an experienced Duty Manager to join our hospitality team at our Mission Bay Auckland location. This is a full-time position where you will take a leadership role in managing day-to-day operations across our bar and beverage services. As Duty Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring exceptional customer service, maintaining operational standards, and leading our team to deliver outstanding experiences to our guests. This role is pivotal in maintaining the high standards Bay Establishments Ltd is known for whilst contributing to the overall success of our Mission Bay venue.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee all bar and beverage operations during assigned shifts, ensuring smooth and efficient service delivery
• Manage and supervise bar and hospitality staff, providing guidance, direction and support throughout their shifts
• Maintain compliance with licensing regulations, health and safety standards, and company policies
• Monitor stock levels of beverages and supplies, coordinating with management on ordering and inventory management
• Handle customer inquiries and resolve any service-related issues promptly and professionally
• Ensure the bar and service areas are clean, well-maintained and meet company standards at all times
• Process payments, manage the till and handle cash reconciliation accurately
• Train and mentor team members on beverage knowledge, service standards and customer care
• Implement promotions and special events as directed by management
• Report on operational performance and identify opportunities for improvement

What we're looking for

• Proven experience as a Duty Manager, Bar Manager or similar supervisory role in the hospitality industry
• Strong knowledge of beverages, cocktails, wines and beers, with the ability to recommend products to customers
• Excellent leadership and team management skills with the ability to motivate and develop staff
• Outstanding customer service skills with a calm and professional approach under pressure
• Sound knowledge of health and safety regulations, responsible alcohol service and licensing requirements
• Proficiency in point-of-sale (POS) systems and cash handling procedures
• Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and management
• Current or ability to obtain appropriate hospitality certifications and licenses as required by New Zealand law
• Flexibility to work evening, weekend and public holiday shifts as required
