Earthwork Takeoff Engineer

Overview

Ironmark Earthworks Inc. is hiring an Earthwork Takeoff Engineer to produce accurate earthwork quantities and 3D models in AGTEK for bids and active projects. This role sits between estimating and the field: your numbers drive our bid prices, and your models drive our GPS-equipped equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform earthwork takeoffs in AGTEK (Earthwork 4D / Gradework 4D) from PDF and CAD plan sets for bids, change orders, and re-bids.
• Build existing and proposed surfaces from topo surveys, grading plans, and point clouds; calculate cut/fill, import/export, and balance.
• Account for strippings, over-excavation and recompaction, pavement and building pad sections, shrink/swell factors, and utility trench spoils.
• Prepare quantity reports, cut/fill maps, and phasing/mass-haul analysis to support estimators and project managers.
• Create and maintain 3D machine-control models (Trimble) and push updates to the field as plans change.
• Track as-built and progress quantities from survey and drone data (AGTEK Smartsite or similar) to support pay apps and production tracking.
• Review plans for conflicts, missing grades, and constructability issues, and write clear RFIs and bid clarifications.
• Coordinate with estimators, superintendents, surveyors, and grade checkers to keep models and quantities current.
• Maintain organized takeoff files, revision logs, and documented assumptions for every job.

Required qualifications

• 3+ years of earthwork takeoff or 3D modeling experience with a grading, excavation, or site development contractor.
• Proficiency in AGTEK is required: independently building surfaces, running quantity reports, and exporting machine-control files without supervision. Candidates will complete a short AGTEK takeoff exercise during the interview.
• Strong ability to read civil plans, grading and drainage plans, geotechnical reports, and survey data.
• Working knowledge of earthwork concepts: cut/fill, shrink/swell, compaction, over-ex, structural sections, and haul.
• Experience producing GPS machine-control models for Trimble.
• Proficient in Excel and Bluebeam.
• Detail-oriented, able to manage multiple bid deadlines, and clear in written communication.

Preferred qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent field experience).
• Experience with AGTEK Smartsite, drone/UAV survey data, or point-cloud processing.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, or Carlson.
• Field experience as a grade checker, surveyor, or equipment operator.
