About the role

Candidex is seeking ECE Qualified Teachers to join our relieving team in Wellington. This is a casual position that offers excellent flexibility and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in early childhood education.

As a reliever, you will step in to provide quality educational experiences for young learners across various early childhood settings, ensuring continuity of care and learning when permanent staff are away. This role is essential to maintaining high standards of care and supporting the day-to-day needs of the centres we partner with.

What you'll be doing

  • Delivering engaging and age-appropriate learning experiences for children in early childhood settings.
  • Implementing curriculum activities that support children's cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development.
  • Maintaining a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment.
  • Observing and supporting children's progress and developmental milestones alongside permanent staff.
  • Building positive relationships with the children and working collaboratively with the centre team.
  • Supporting children's wellbeing, health, and safety in accordance with centre policies and procedures.
  • Contributing to a collaborative team environment and seamlessly supporting the work of permanent staff members.
  • Following all centre-specific protocols, Health and Safety requirements, and the New Zealand Early Childhood Curriculum (Te Whāriki).
  • Adapting quickly to the centre's day-to-day programme planning and actively assisting the team with its delivery.

What we're looking for

  • Must currently reside in New Zealand and hold a valid work visa or residency/citizenship (we cannot provide visa sponsorship for this casual role).
  • Current Early Childhood Education (ECE) teaching qualification recognised in Aotearoa New Zealand.
  • Current registration with the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand.
  • Flexibility and reliability to respond to short-notice relief teaching opportunities.
  • Strong understanding of Te Whāriki and current best practices in ECE.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with children and colleagues.
  • Ability to adapt quickly, work independently, and collaborate with diverse teams in different settings.
  • Commitment to child safety, wellbeing, and inclusive practice.
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and hygiene requirements in early childhood settings.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children's learning and development.

What we offer

  • Flexible casual arrangements: Enjoy a great work-life balance by choosing when and where you want to work.
  • Competitive hourly rates: Weekly pay that directly reflects your qualifications and ECE experience.
  • Registration networking meetings: Connect with fellow teachers to brainstorm solutions, celebrate successes, and collaborate on ways to document and support your teacher registration journey.
  • Diverse experience: Expand your skills by working across a variety of early childhood settings and environments.
  • A supportive network: Join a team that values collaboration, professional growth, and looks after its relievers.
  • Meaningful impact: The day-to-day satisfaction of supporting local tamariki and giving permanent teams a helping hand when they need it most.
