Skills:

  • Cardiac sonographers conduct transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiograms to
  • evaluate heart function and structure in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
  • Strong understanding of ultrasound technology and cardiac anatomy is essential.
  • Maintain operation and maintenance of ultrasound equipment to obtain high quality images of the heart.
  • Assessment of images for clarity and relevance, selecting the most appropriate ones
  • for physician review.
  • Documentation and preparation of preliminary reports highlighting key observations for
  • cardiologists.
  • Able to explain procedures clearly and interact effectively with patients and the healthcare team.
  • May assist in clinical research and training of new staff or students.
  • Technical proficiency and ability to navigate electronic health systems applicable to job functions.

Licensure:

  • The current state license in Sonography is required for all employees who perform this job in the state(s) of practice. In the state of Oregon, the Oregon Board of Medical Imaging (OBMI) license, or temporary license to practice is mandatory.
