The Week Junior is a weekly, 36-page current affairs magazine that explains news and events in an age-appropriate and engaging way to children aged 8–14. The Week Junior’s sister magazine, The Week Junior Science+Nature, is a monthly magazine designed to ignite a passion for discovery and encourage young readers to explore, understand and protect their planet.

We’re looking for a full-time Editorial Assistant to join our team based in Paddington, London.

What you'll be doing…

Reporting to the Deputy Editor, you'll be providing administrative support to a busy editorial team working across both The Week Junior and The Week Junior Science+Nature.

You'll be fielding and responding to correspondence, including complaints and customer service enquiries, as well as sending out prizes, badges and magazines to readers and contributors.

You'll also be adding content to our online Activity Hubs, setting up online polls, administering competitions and prize draws, and ensuring the landing pages for these are kept up to date. You'll be involved in creating and scheduling posts for our social media channels and responding to enquiries and complaints that come in via these platforms.

You'll be putting together the Over to You pages in The Week Junior and liaising with the pages' contributors. This will include contacting parents to ensure we have their permission to use readers' photos. Other editorial support includes researching The Week Junior’s Book Bites and Week in History sections. There may be opportunities to appear on our weekly podcast The Week Junior Show.

Experience that will put you ahead of the curve…

  • Familiarity with Google Workspace apps (e.g. Docs, Sheets, Slides), experience with CMSs and social media management tools such as Dash and Sprout would be very valuable. Some InDesign (or Canva) experience would be useful too
  • Familiarity with managing social media channels for a brand or organisation, including writing and scheduling posts (around 7 to 10 per week for The Week Junior and 4 to 6 for Science+Nature), using social media management tools such as Dash and Sprout and designing/editing social media cards using InDesign
  • Liaising with editorial and art teams to produce social media cards
  • Some experience of appearing on podcasts and knowledge of video would be beneficial

What's in it for you…

The expected range for this role is £29,000

This is a Hybrid role from our London Office, working three days from the office, two from home
