Overview

Join our educational team as a Sign Language Interpreter, supporting a 2nd‑grade elementary student who is deaf or hard of hearing. This role ensures the student has full access to instruction, communication, and participation throughout the school day. You will provide accurate, real‑time interpretation and help foster an inclusive, supportive learning environment.

CompensationLocal Candidates (within 50 miles):

• W2 Rate: $45/hr
• Weekly Total: $1,687.50 (37.5 hours/week)

Travel Candidates (50+ miles away):

• $1,806/week total compensation
• Includes hourly wages + travel package
• Housing and meals included
• Must reside 50+ miles from Troutman, NC to qualify

1099 Contractor Option:

• $50/hr
• Weekly Total: $1,875/week (37.5 hours/week)

Responsibilities

• Provide accurate ASL interpretation during classroom instruction, activities, and school routines
• Facilitate communication between the student, teachers, administrators, and peers
• Support student understanding of curriculum content through real‑time interpretation
• Adapt interpretation style to meet individual communication needs
• Collaborate with educational staff to ensure consistent communication access
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional interpreter ethics
• Participate in ongoing professional development as required

Required Qualifications

• EIPA score of 3.5 or higher
• Strong ASL expressive and receptive skills
• Experience in K–12 educational settings preferred
• Ability to work onsite Monday–Friday for the full school year

Skills & Competencies

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
• Strong simultaneous and consecutive interpretation skills
• Clear, accurate communication across diverse educational environments
• Understanding of interpreter ethics, confidentiality, and professional standards
• Ability to collaborate effectively with school teams and support student success

Contract Details

• Start Date: ASAP
• End Date: June 10, 2027
• Schedule: Monday–Friday, standard school hours
• Hours: 37.5 per week
• Setting: Elementary (2nd grade)

Pay: $1,687.50 - $1,875.00 per week
