What they need

Are you interested in joining a collaborative, supportive faculty where educators are empowered to inspire curiosity, creativity, and a love of learning?  If so, Farber Hebrew Day School, a vibrant Modern Orthodox, Zionist Jewish day school committed to academic excellence, character development, and Jewish values, may be the place for you!

Farber is seeking a caring, collaborative, and student-centered Educational Support Services (ESS) Teacher to join our middle and high school team. This full-time position will focus primarily on providing individualized and small-group academic support to students across the middle and high school, both within and outside of the general education classroom. A significant component of the role will be ongoing communication and collaboration with students, classroom teachers, parents, and the Educational Support Services team to monitor student progress, stay informed about academic expectations and workload, and ensure that students receive consistent, coordinated support.

At Farber Hebrew Day School, we are committed to providing personalized support that meets students where they are. Through small-group instruction and individualized attention, our ESS team works closely with students, families, and classroom teachers to help each student reach their potential.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead middle school and high school Study Skills classes and serve as a Teacher Consultant providing targeted instruction and support in:
    • Organization and time management.
    • Managing homework and long-term assignments.
    • Breaking down larger, multi-faceted projects into manageable steps.
    • Planning and prioritizing academic responsibilities.
    • Preparing for quizzes, tests, and other assessments.
    • Developing effective study habits and independent learning strategies.
    • Help students develop greater independence, self-advocacy, confidence, and ownership of their learning.
  • Provide small-group and individualized academic support based on student needs through both push-in support within the general education classroom and pull-out support in a small-group or individualized setting.
  • When appropriate, teach in tandem with classroom teachers to provide additional support within the general education classroom, helping to differentiate instruction, reinforce skills, and meet individual student needs.
  • Prioritize consistent, ongoing communication as a central part of the role. Maintain regular and proactive communication with students, classroom teachers, parents, and members of the Educational Support Services team to stay informed about student progress, academic expectations, workload, upcoming assignments and assessments, and emerging needs.
  • Potentially teach U.S. History as an additional teaching assignment.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in education or a related field; a master's degree or specialized training in special education, learning support, educational therapy, or a related area is preferred.
  • Valid Michigan teaching certification.
  • Experience working with middle and high school students.
  • An understanding of executive functioning, study skills, and strategies for supporting diverse learners.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • The ability to build positive, trusting relationships with students.
  • A flexible, team-oriented approach to working with classroom teachers and colleagues.
  • A commitment to helping students become increasingly independent and confident learners.

Benefits:

  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience.
  • Comprehensive benefits package:
    • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
    • Retirement savings plan with employer contribution or matching.
    • Life and disability insurance.
    • Paid personal and sick time.
    • Generous school vacation schedule aligned with the academic calendar.
    • Tuition remission or discounted tuition for eligible children attending the school.
    • Professional development opportunities, including workshops, conferences, and continuing education support.
    • Mentorship and instructional coaching for ongoing professional growth.
