Educator

Overview

Our family is seeking a dedicated special education tutor to work one-on-one with our 20-year-old son, who has Autism Spectrum Disorder. He communicates verbally on a limited basis and is educated at home. We’re looking for someone patient and creative who is invested in helping him build skills and confidence.

What You’ll Do

• Lead individualized sessions focused on reading and writing, math, and foundational skills, in person at our home and occasionally online
• Bring in educational apps, visual supports, and other learning tools to keep lessons interactive and engaging
• Track his progress on an ongoing basis and adjust your methods as his needs and learning style evolve
• Work closely with our family and his support team (therapists, specialists) so strategies stay consistent across settings
• Design lesson plans and activities that fit his developmental level and interests, with an emphasis on age-appropriate, respectful materials

What We’re Looking For

• A Special Education Teaching Credential (Mod/Severe) is highly preferred, or BCBA or RBT certification
• Hands-on experience teaching or supporting students with special needs, whether in a classroom, tutoring, or therapy setting
• Strong lesson planning and curriculum development skills
• Comfort working with nonverbal or minimally verbal learners, including the use of alternative communication methods
• The flexibility to adapt your approach to different learning styles and developmental stages
• Experience in childcare, early childhood education, or similar settings is a plus
