Essential Job Duties
- Rally cross-functional planning teams to orchestrate effects into a cohesive operational plan that actually works.
- Facilitate working groups to untangle resource conflicts, timing misalignments, and competing objectives between different subordinate commands and staff sections.
- Dig into analysis to uncover key vulnerabilities and critical nodes within a target system that, when addressed, will deliver the desired effect.
- Develop Measures of Performance (MOPs) and Measures of Effectiveness (MOEs) that tell the real story of whether an operation is hitting its intended targets.
- Champion the operational-level target development process, nominating specific targets or actions that directly support the overall campaign plan.
- Analyze ongoing operations and deliver formal assessments to leadership that cut through the noise and show what's actually working.
- Translate national-level strategic guidance into operational reality, ensuring all plans and priorities ladder up to and support strategic directives.
- Refine, prioritize, and champion the plans and resource requirements of subordinate commands during higher-level planning conferences.
- Craft and staff major special operations documents—think CONPLANs, OPORDs, and formal planning guidance—that are clear, compelling, and actionable.
- Become the go-to subject matter expert on published plans, guiding military staff and subordinate units through interpretation, application, and intent.
- Prepare and deliver briefings to senior leaders that break down proposed or current plans, highlighting intended effects and synchronization in ways that resonate.
Qualifications
- Active in scope TS/SCI with ability to obtain a CI Poly.
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Government, International Affairs/Relations, or closely related discipline;
- or 12 years of military experience as a Planner
- Minimum 10 years of combined work-related experience with minimum of 5 years since 2020 as a Planner at the O-6 or higher level within USSOCOM Enterprise or Interagency equivalent.
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional planning teams.
- Experience facilitating working groups to deconflict resources, timing, and objectives between different subordinate commands and staff sections.
- Ability to identify key vulnerabilities and nodes within a target system that, if acted upon, will produce the desired effect.
- Skilled at translating complex operational problems into clear, concise briefings and reports that directly inform planning and operations.
