What they need

About the role

G & W Contracts Ltd is actively recruiting an experienced Environmental, Health, Safety & Quality (EHSQ) Manager to support our Facilities Management operations, construction projects and wider client portfolio across Ireland and the UK.

You will lead EHSQ standards across construction, refurbishment, maintenance and Facilities Management activities, working closely with project managers, site teams and contractors to deliver safe, compliant and high-quality services.

This is a primarily daytime management position supporting a varied portfolio that includes 24-hour operational environments. Travel between client and project locations in Ireland and the UK is required.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide EHSQ leadership and practical support across Facilities Management operations and construction, refurbishment and maintenance projects.
  • Ensure activities comply with applicable Irish and UK legislation, company procedures, contractual obligations and client requirements.
  • Prepare, review and approve task-specific risk assessments, Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS), daily and dynamic risk assessments, and Safe Systems of Work.
  • Prepare and maintain Construction Stage Safety and Health Plans.
  • Coordinate Project Supervisor Construction Stage (PSCS) duties on Irish projects where G & W Contracts Ltd is formally appointed, and support relevant UK construction duty-holder requirements.
  • Develop and maintain EHSQ policies, procedures, risk controls and Permit-to-Work arrangements, including controls for higher-risk activities.
  • Conduct safety, environmental and quality inspections, audits and compliance reviews, tracking corrective actions through to completion.
  • Lead or support incident and near-miss investigations, root-cause analysis, reporting and preventive actions.
  • Monitor environmental compliance, waste management, resource use, pollution prevention and agreed performance indicators.
  • Oversee contractor safety compliance, including competence, training, inductions, insurance, RAMS and permits.
  • Lead and participate in daily and weekly toolbox talks, safety briefings and project safety meetings.
  • Lead implementation, certification readiness, maintenance and continual improvement of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and other relevant accreditations.
  • Provide practical advice, coaching and EHSQ performance reports to management, project teams and client stakeholders.

What we are looking for

  • Proven experience in an EHS, Health & Safety or EHSQ management role within an operational, engineering, industrial, construction or similar environment.
  • Working knowledge of Irish health and safety legislation and relevant UK compliance requirements.
  • Practical experience preparing and approving RAMS, risk assessments and Safe Systems of Work.
  • Experience conducting audits, investigating incidents, managing contractor compliance and progressing corrective actions.
  • Strong communication, report-writing, organisational and stakeholder-management skills.
  • A recognised health and safety qualification, such as a NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent.
  • A full driving licence and flexibility to travel between sites in Ireland and the UK.

Experience supporting both construction projects and Facilities Management operations would be an advantage, along with experience in PSCS activities, IOSH membership, and ISO management systems or auditing.

Working hours and flexibility

This is a permanent, full-time position based on a 40-hour working week, primarily during normal daytime management hours.

There is no fixed call-out rota. Flexibility to provide support or attend site outside normal hours may be required for significant incidents, audits, project works or operational needs.

Travel between client and project locations in Ireland and the UK forms part of the role.
