Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer

Key Responsibilities

Plant Maintenance & Reliability

• Plan, schedule, and execute preventive and corrective maintenance activities to maximise plant availability.
• Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis (RCA) for electrical and instrumentation equipment failures.
• Supervise maintenance technicians and contractors to ensure work is completed safely and efficiently.
• Manage maintenance planning, spare parts, tools, and equipment availability.
• Support plant shutdowns, commissioning, and equipment start-up activities.
• Ensure compliance with Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) standards and statutory regulations.
• Coordinate inspections for pressure vessels and other Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) regulated equipment.

Engineering & Projects

• Design and specify Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) systems for new plant projects.
• Prepare engineering specifications, drawings, technical documentation, and cost estimates.
• Review and approve engineering designs and contractor deliverables to ensure compliance with company and international standards.
• Participate in HAZOP, risk assessments, and safety reviews for engineering projects.
• Support project construction, commissioning, testing, and plant handover activities.
• Drive engineering best practices and recommend technologies to improve plant performance, reliability, and energy efficiency.

Continuous Improvement

• Improve plant reliability, reduce downtime, and optimise operational costs.
• Analyse maintenance performance and recommend improvement initiatives.
• Mentor junior engineers and technicians while promoting engineering excellence.

Requirements

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.

Experience

• Minimum 5 years of experience in maintenance or engineering within a chemical, petrochemical, manufacturing, or process plant environment.
• Hands-on experience with Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) systems.
• Experience supporting maintenance, commissioning, and plant improvement projects.

Technical Requirements

Electrical

• Good understanding of Electrical Single Line Diagrams (SLD), including:

  • High Voltage (HV) to Low Voltage (LV) power distribution
  • Generator (Genset) systems
  • UPS systems
  • Electrical distribution arrangements

• Experience with:

  • Motor Control Centres (MCC)
  • Electric motors
  • Variable Speed Drives (VSD)
  • Motor starters
  • Protection relays
  • Low Voltage (LV) and Medium Voltage (MV) systems
  • Electrical troubleshooting

Instrumentation

Minimum 5 years of experience with plant instrumentation, including:

• Pressure gauges, transmitters, and switches
• Differential pressure transmitters
• Temperature gauges, RTDs, thermocouples, and transmitters
• Flow transmitters and flowmeters (Magnetic, Vortex, Coriolis, Ultrasonic)
• Level transmitters (Radar, Ultrasonic) and level switches
• Level gauges
• Instrument calibration
• Control valves and positioners
• Loop checking
• DCS / PLC interfaces
• Instrument troubleshooting

Software

• SAP (PM Module preferred)
• Microsoft Office
• AutoCAD (advantage)
• Instrumentation engineering software such as AVEVA, COMOS, or INTOOLS is an advantage.
• Familiarity with instrument sizing software (e.g. Instrucal) is an advantage.
