He kōrero mō mātou | About Watercare

Ki te ora te wai, ka ora te whenua, ka ora te tangata
When the water is healthy, the land and the people are healthy

There's never been a better time to join Watercare. We're delivering a $15.2 billion, 10-year capital investment programme, the largest in our history, creating opportunities to work on transformative infrastructure, sustainability and digital projects that will shape Auckland's future. With more than $4 million invested every day, you'll be part of work that makes a lasting difference to our communities and environment.

  • Rosedale based

  • $29.90 per hour starting rate with regular pay increases

  • Complete a New Zealand Electrical Apprenticeship (Level 4) while you earn

  • Fixed-term, full-time: Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 4:00pm

We have an exciting Electrical Apprenticeship opportunity available for a motivated and enthusiastic person who wants to earn while they learn. This programme provides the opportunity to develop practical skills and build a rewarding career while supporting our Maintenance Delivery team in the maintenance, installation, repair, and testing of electrical equipment and systems critical to Watercare's operations.

As an Electrical Apprentice, you'll gain hands-on experience working with electrical systems across Watercare's water and wastewater treatment facilities. You'll learn how to install and maintain equipment, diagnose faults, read electrical drawings, carry out testing, and support projects that help keep Auckland's essential infrastructure operating safely and efficiently.

We're looking for someone who:

  • Is a team player with good communication skills

  • Has a strong health and safety focus

  • Is willing to work occasional overtime and weekends when required (this would be the exception rather than the rule)

  • Has good literacy and numeracy skills

  • Has an interest in electrical systems, engineering, technology, or trades

  • Has a desire to work in the water industry

  • Enjoys practical problem-solving and hands-on work

  • Holds a clean, full driver's licence

Most importantly, we're looking for someone with a positive attitude, strong motivation, and a willingness to learn.

Full training will be provided for the successful applicant. You'll receive industry-leading support while working towards a nationally recognised qualification, gaining valuable practical experience, and developing specialist electrical trade skills. For someone who demonstrates commitment, capability, and drive, there are excellent opportunities for future career growth within Watercare.

This is a rare opportunity to join a great team and build a career that makes a real difference to Tāmaki Makaurau. You'll help maintain and improve the electrical systems that support Auckland's water and wastewater infrastructure while working for Aotearoa New Zealand's largest water and wastewater utility, Watercare.

    Health, Safety & Wellbeing

At Watercare, the health, safety, and wellbeing of our people is at the heart of everything we do.

    Please note that:

  • As part of our pre-employment checks, you'll be required to complete a medical assessment, including a drug and alcohol screen

  • Before starting in the role, you'll need to receive several vaccinations to protect you when working around wastewater environments

  • Watercare will organise and cover the cost of all required medical assessments and vaccinations
