What they need

Join one of New Zealand’s leading heavy industrial sites as an experienced Electrical / Automation Project Engineer, driving key automation and control upgrades across a dynamic steel manufacturing environment. This is a rare opportunity to apply your in-depth technical knowledge, project leadership, and hands-on design/programming skills in a critical, large-scale operation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and execute electrical and automation projects across plant systems—from concept to commissioning.
  • Design and review electrical hardware (MCCs, control panels, cable routing, schematics).
  • Develop and troubleshoot PLC/HMI/SCADA systems (Siemens and Allen Bradley platforms).
  • Ensure all systems meet applicable safety and compliance standards (AS/NZS 3000, IEC, AS 4024).
  • Coordinate with internal teams, contractors, and vendors to deliver successful outcomes.
  • Provide support for plant modifications, upgrades, and automation-related troubleshooting.
  • Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including drawings, ITPs, and risk assessments.

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in industrial electrical/automation engineering.
  • Proven expertise in Siemens (TIA Portal, S7, WinCC) and Allen Bradley (RSLogix 5000, FactoryTalk) systems.
  • Strong grounding in electrical hardware design using AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or similar.
  • Demonstrated project delivery experience in a heavy industry environment—steel, mining, or manufacturing preferred.
  • Sound understanding of NZ and international electrical standards.
  • Strong communication, coordination, and fault-finding skills.
