Automation Engineers Australia (AEA) is an electrical and industrial automation business. We help customers deliver electrical, controls and automation projects, and we are looking to build a select number of new, long-term client relationships.

We are seeking an experienced, commercially minded Business, well connected Development Manager to help us identify opportunities, open doors and convert discussions into projects. This is a part-time role for someone who enjoys building business and can work independently.

About the role

This is a hands-on new-business role, not simply account management, marketing or appointment setting. You will take ownership of the sales process, working with the business owner on technical scope, proposals and commercial approvals.

Key responsibilities

• Find suitable opportunities: Identify and approach potential customers with electrical, controls and automation requirements
• Open doors: Use relevant industry relationships and targeted outreach to connect with decision-makers
• Qualify projects: Understand the customer's needs, timing, budget and decision-making process
• Progress and win work: Coordinate meetings, support proposals, follow up consistently and negotiate within agreed authority
• Build lasting relationships: Maintain a focused opportunity pipeline and help turn initial projects into repeat business

About you

• Established relationships in industrial, manufacturing, engineering, electrical or related markets
• Practical examples of developing new customers and converting opportunities into projects or service contracts
• The ability to recognise work that suits capabilities, capacity and margin requirements
• Enough understanding of electrical or automation work to hold credible customer conversations; you do not need to be the design engineer
• Self-motivation, organisation and reliable follow-through without day-to-day supervision
