What they need
Electrical Commissioning Engineer – Data Centers (Navy Veterans Welcome)
Pay: $90,000 – $115,000 per year
Location: On the road (domestic travel)
Overview
Getting out of the Navy and wondering where your electrical experience fits on the civilian side? Data center commissioning is one of the most direct paths, and it’s one of the fastest-growing fields in the country.
We’re hiring Electrical Commissioning Engineers for one of the biggest commissioning agents in the mission-critical industry. You’ll work on the owner’s rep side, testing and verifying the power systems that keep large data centers running. Some of the company’s senior leaders are veterans, and a number of Navy techs have already made this move onto their team.
If you’ve stood watch on a switchboard, worked on ship’s service generators, troubleshot electrical or electronic systems, or lived by tagouts and PMS, you already understand most of what this job requires.
What You’ll Do
- Support and lead electrical commissioning from Level 3 through Level 5 on large data center projects.
- Test and commission critical power equipment, including UPS systems, generators, switchgear, ATS/STS, PDUs, RPPs, busway, and rack-level distribution.
- Verify protection, controls, monitoring, metering, alarms, and interlocks, and confirm that systems respond correctly under normal and fault conditions. A data center is a lot like a ship’s electrical plant: redundant power, no tolerance for downtime, and every casualty has a procedure.
- Read one-lines, schematics, submittals, and sequences of operation to confirm the installation matches the design.
- Coordinate with electrical contractors, manufacturers, controls techs, and client reps to run tests and resolve issues.
- Witness and document startups, test results, deficiencies, and final sign-off.
What We’re Looking For
- Hands-on experience with three-phase AC power systems (shipboard power generation, distribution, or electrical/electronics maintenance counts)
- Electrical testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, or commissioning experience
- Comfort reading electrical drawings, schematics, and technical manuals
- A solid safety background (tagout/LOTO, NFPA 70E, arc flash awareness)
- Willingness to travel
- Mission-critical experience is a plus but not required. Navy ratings such as EM, ET, IC, GSE, EN, and nuclear-trained (EMN/ETN) are strongly considered.
Why Navy Veterans Make the Switch
- Your Navy electrical training and procedural discipline are valued from day one
- You’ll work with a team that includes veterans, including in leadership
- Strong pay and long-term career growth in an industry that’s expanding fast
- Travel and project-based work without deployments
If you’re separating or retiring in the next several months, reach out now. It’s never too early to start the conversation.
Benefits
401(k) with matching, health and dental insurance, paid time off, and a retirement plan.
I listed the Navy ratings that map best to electrical commissioning. Remove any you don’t want to target, or add rates like MM if you’re also hiring for mechanical commissioning.
Pay: $90,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
Benefits:
- 401(k)
- 401(k) matching
