The Electrical Design Engineer will play a critical role in the design, development, testing, and launch of new products and integrated systems, from concept through production. This individual will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management, production, quality, supply chain, sales, and marketing, to ensure that new products meet performance, safety, cost, and manufacturing requirements. The ideal candidate will bring experience in electrical systems, controls, automation, and product development within a manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Product Design and Development:

    • Lead and contribute to the design and development of electrical and electromechanical products, ensuring they meet customer requirements, safety standards, and manufacturing capabilities.
    • Develop electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, control panel layouts, bills of material, and technical specifications.
    • Design and integrate electrical control systems including PLCs, HMIs, sensors, relays, motors, actuators, power distribution, and communications devices.
    • Support product prototyping, testing, and validation activities to verify design performance and reliability.
    • Evaluate and recommend electrical components and technologies to improve product functionality and competitiveness.
    • Develop detailed product specifications, 3D models, and engineering drawings using SolidWorks CAD software.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:

    • Work closely with mechanical engineering, manufacturing, procurement, quality, sales, and marketing teams to ensure successful product development and launch.
    • Collaborate with suppliers and vendors to identify, source, and qualify electrical components and assemblies.
    • Support manufacturing operations by providing technical guidance during prototype and production builds.
    • Act as a liaison between engineering and production teams to ensure designs are manufacturable, serviceable, and cost-effective.
  • Project Management:

    • Manage electrical engineering activities throughout the product development lifecycle, including concept development, design, testing, validation, and production launch.
    • Create and maintain project schedules, deliverables, and documentation to support product development objectives.
    • Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and project status meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Support Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and continuous product improvement initiatives.
  • Testing and Validation:

    • Develop and execute test plans to validate electrical system performance, functionality, durability, and compliance.
    • Troubleshoot electrical systems and analyze test results to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
    • Ensure products comply with applicable regulatory, safety, and industry standards.
    • Support product certifications and agency approvals as required.
  • Continuous Improvement:

    • Identify opportunities to improve product performance, quality, manufacturability, and cost.
    • Stay current with emerging technologies, electrical design practices, automation trends, and industry standards.
    • Contribute to the development and standardization of engineering processes, design guidelines, and best practices.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics Engineering, or equivalent.

  • Experience:

    • 5+ years of experience in electrical design, controls engineering, automation, or product development, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
    • Strong proficiency with SolidWorks. DriveWorks experience is a plus.
    • Experience designing electrical control systems for industrial equipment, automated systems, or electromechanical products.
    • Experience with PLC programming, HMI development, and industrial communication networks is highly desirable.
    • Experience with electrical design software such as AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, SolidWorks Electrical, or equivalent.
    • Familiarity with UL, NEC, NFPA, IEC, and other applicable electrical standards.
    • Experience with product development processes, design validation, and engineering documentation.
  • Skills:

    • Strong understanding of electrical distribution, industrial controls, automation systems, and component selection.
    • Proficiency in creating and interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control panel layouts.
    • Knowledge of PLCs, relays, contactors, motor starters, VFDs, sensors, encoders, safety circuits, and communication protocols.
    • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
    • Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
    • Strong communication and collaboration skills with experience working in cross-functional teams.
    • Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications:

    • Master’s degree in related engineering field
    • Experience with industrial gate systems, access control systems, perimeter security products, or similar electromechanical equipment.
    • Experience with functional safety systems and risk assessments.
    • Knowledge of battery, solar, low-voltage, and wireless communication systems.
    • Familiarity with DFM, DFMEA, Lean Manufacturing, and Six Sigma methodologies.
    • Certifications: Project Management Professional (PMP), Six Sigma, or Lean Manufacturing certifications are a plus.
