What they need

JLRD, Inc. is a Florida-based MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) and fire protection consulting engineering firm founded in 1991. Headquartered in West Palm Beach with offices in Merritt Island, Jacksonville, and Tampa, JLRD delivers all four engineering disciplines in-house across healthcare, education, government, federal, aviation, utilities and infrastructure, commercial and mixed-use, hospitality, residential, and mission-critical facilities.

We are privately owned and engineering-led. We compete on technical depth, not scale, and we build teams accordingly.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Electrical Designer is an independent producer within JLRD's Electrical discipline. This role owns assigned portions of projects from concept through construction documents, proactively coordinates with other disciplines, and produces high-quality electrical design documents that require minimal rework.

This is a design role, not a production-only drafting role. We are looking for an Electrical Designer who understands building electrical systems, can make design decisions within a defined scope, and has the coordination judgment to identify and resolve issues rather than simply execute direction. This is a Designer-track role, not a PE-track role, with the opportunity to progress to Senior Designer as technical capability and independent judgment develop.

This position reports to the Electrical Department Lead.

Position is based in West Palm Beach, Florida. On-site.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Electrical Design Production

  • Own assigned electrical design scopes from concept through construction documents
  • Produce Revit MEP models and construction documents, including lighting and power plans, enlarged layouts, panel schedules, riser diagrams, details, and annotations
  • Perform load calculations, panel scheduling, & circuit sizing under the direction of senior staff
  • Incorporate engineering markups and redlines accurately and completely
  • Maintain drawing organization, clarity, and consistency across sheets

Cross-Discipline Coordination

  • Coordinate with Mechanical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection designers on system layouts
  • Work with architectural teams on equipment placement and electrical room layouts
  • Identify drawing conflicts and resolve them or escalate with a proposed solution
  • Support clash detection and coordination reviews

Quality and Standards

  • Maintain adherence to JLRD drafting standards, Revit templates, and file structure
  • Identify and correct inconsistencies before internal review
  • Critically review AI-augmented design output rather than accepting it at face value

Construction Administration Support

  • Revise drawings based on RFIs, submittal comments, and field changes
  • Maintain updated drawing sets during construction
  • Support senior staff with submittal review and site observation documentation

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate degree or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or a related field; equivalent experience considered
  • 3+ years of electrical design experience for building systems within an MEP consulting environment
  • Strong proficiency with Revit MEP and AutoCAD
  • Solid understanding of electrical drawing conventions and construction documentation
  • Working knowledge of NEC (NFPA 70) and Florida Building Code
  • Ability to interpret and implement engineering markups accurately
  • Strong attention to detail and organization

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Healthcare project experience, including exposure to FGI and AHCA requirements

  • Comfort with AI-augmented design tooling
  • Autodesk Revit MEP certification

SCHEDULE

  • Monday through Thursday, 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM
  • Friday, 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM (half-day Fridays year-round)

BENEFITS

  • Health insurance with 100% of employee premium covered by JLRD, eligible after 30 days
  • Short-term and long-term disability and life insurance
  • Safe Harbor Non-Elective 401(k) with 3% JLRD contribution, eligible after one year
  • 2 weeks vacation, 6 paid sick days, and 7 paid holidays

  • Annual discretionary bonus
  • Professional development support

Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience and demonstrated capability.
