Electrical Draughtsman

Job Summary

The Electrical Draughtsman (MEP) is responsible for preparing, modifying, and reviewing detailed electrical drawings for building services projects. The role involves developing electrical layouts, lighting drawings, power distribution drawings, low-current system drawings, and coordination drawings in accordance with project specifications, local authority regulations, and industry standards. The Electrical Draughtsman works closely with MEP engineers, project managers, and other disciplines to ensure accurate and coordinated design documentation.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed electrical shop drawings, coordination drawings, and as-built drawings for MEP projects.
• Develop electrical layouts including:
• Lighting systems
• Power distribution systems
• Cable tray and conduit layouts
• Earthing and lightning protection systems
• Low-current systems (Fire Alarm, CCTV, Access Control, ELV)
• Interpret engineering designs, specifications, and tender documents.
• Coordinate electrical drawings with HVAC, plumbing, architectural, and structural disciplines.
• Produce Single Line Diagrams (SLD), load schedules, panel schedules, and electrical details.
• Revise drawings based on engineer comments, client requirements, and site conditions.
• Ensure compliance with local authority regulations, electrical codes, and project standards.
• Assist in preparing material quantity take-offs from drawings.
• Maintain drawing registers and document control procedures.
• Support project teams with technical drafting requirements throughout project execution.
• Prepare and update as-built drawings upon project completion.

Required Qualifications

• Diploma or Certificate in Electrical Engineering, Drafting, or a related technical field.
• 3-8 years of experience in MEP drafting and electrical building services projects.
• Experience in commercial, residential, healthcare, hospitality, or industrial projects preferred.

Technical Skills

• Proficiency in AutoCAD.
• Working knowledge of Revit MEP and BIM modeling.
• Understanding of electrical systems and MEP coordination.
• Familiarity with local electrical regulations and international standards.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
