About Cision Vision
Cision Vision is a medical imaging startup built on technology developed at MIT. Our real-time, label-free infrared imaging helps surgeons visualize critical anatomy during procedures. With funding support from the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H), we are turning this technology into practical products for clinical use. We are expanding our engineering team, offering the opportunity to shape new medical devices from early prototypes through clinical adoption.
The role
We are seeking a hands-on camera engineer to develop cameras for our surgical and pathology imaging systems. You will help build our internal camera development capability, taking image sensors through electronics integration, firmware or FPGA development, image acquisition, calibration, and performance testing.
Working closely with electrical, mechanical, optics, and software engineers, you will turn camera requirements into working hardware and reliable imaging performance. You should enjoy bringing up new sensors, debugging problems at the bench, and using measurements to guide design decisions.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate image sensors and define camera requirements for sensitivity, resolution, dynamic range, frame rate, latency, size, power, and cost.
- Develop camera architectures covering sensor readout, control electronics, FPGA or embedded processing, data interfaces, and host connectivity.
- Work with electrical engineers on sensor power, biasing, clocking, signal integrity, and PCB design; participate directly in board and sensor bring-up.
- Develop and debug sensor configuration, readout timing, triggering, synchronization, and image acquisition using FPGA logic or embedded firmware.
- Build acquisition and analysis tools to characterize noise, sensitivity, linearity, uniformity, defective pixels, and image artifacts.
- Develop calibration and image correction methods that deliver consistent performance across cameras and operating conditions.
- Integrate cameras with optics, illumination, and application software; resolve image-quality, bandwidth, thermal, and latency issues.
- Work with sensor vendors and camera development partners on specifications, technical issues, and component selection.
- Maintain design documentation, firmware versions, calibration procedures, and test records; support verification and manufacturing transfer.
Required qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, imaging science, physics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 3 years of relevant camera or imaging hardware development experience, including direct image sensor integration and bring-up.
- Experience taking a camera or image acquisition system from component selection through working hardware and performance testing.
- Understanding of image sensor operation, readout timing, camera electronics, and factors affecting image quality.
- Hands-on proficiency in FPGA development using Verilog/VHDL or embedded camera firmware development using C/C++.
- Experience debugging hardware and data interfaces using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other laboratory instruments.
- Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or similar tools for test automation and image analysis.
- Ability to troubleshoot independently, document results, and collaborate across hardware and software disciplines.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with infrared cameras, or scientific and medical imaging systems.
- Experience with low-noise electronics, mixed-signal circuits, or sensor readout electronics.
- Familiarity with interfaces such as LVDS, MIPI CSI-2, USB 3, GigE Vision, or Camera Link.
- Experience with real-time image processing, embedded Linux, camera drivers, or multi-camera synchronization.
- Experience developing production calibration methods, test fixtures, and camera acceptance criteria.
- Familiarity with ISO 13485, medical device design controls, and verification testing.
Additional preferred qualifications for senior candidates
- Experience leading camera development projects involving electronics, firmware, optics, and mechanical components.
- Experience managing technical milestones, development partners, suppliers, and integration risks.
- Experience mentoring engineers and guiding architecture decisions from early prototypes through production.
Why join Cision Vision
Help establish the camera engineering capability of a growing medical imaging company. You will work directly with company leadership, influence sensor and architecture decisions, and see the cameras you develop become part of imaging systems intended for clinical use.
How to apply
Apply through Indeed with your resume and a brief description of a camera or image sensor system you personally helped develop. Explain your contributions to sensor bring-up, electronics, FPGA or firmware, calibration, and performance testing. Nonconfidential project examples are welcome.
Cision Vision is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and provide reasonable accommodations during the hiring process.
